Wilcox is a decent big and always has been.  that said a frontcourt of KG, Bass and Wilcox is incredibly thin.

White and Randolph have not shown themselves to be good rotation bigs in the NBA. One never knows though.  They could be up to it.

Wilcox should pretend he's a bad banger dude in the middle - just a rebound will not help.

Kirk - Doc will play him more if he does Powe & big Baby imitation. He has a good size bicef and upper body - all he needs is to intimidate anyone in the middle who is tangling with him. Until then...doc will always bypass him....but Wilcox call not doc.

Doc has this amazing way of motivating guys by not playing them. Like Wilcox, who has had an (understandably) up and down year; Doc has kind of shunned him; but now,Wilcox looks like he's rearing to go. A lot of folks on this forum think Doc is just not playing young guys, etc., but I think it's much more about their game. Look at Jeff Green, his game is better and his minutes are way up. Love to see Wilcox getting 20+ minutes cause it would mean he's contributing at positions (backup 4 and 5) which the team really needs.

Agree.  I would imagine that it takes a while to fully recover from the surgery that he had and should only improve for the remainder of the season.  It can't hurt to give him more playing time. 

Everyone - please remember the general rule of thumb, which is that Doc likely knows best!

 

From the limited exposure we have to Doc's coaching methods (through games, press conferences and testamonials), how many of you really think that Doc doesn't know what he is doing? He is extremely rational, he absolutely has a reason behind every decision, whether its to sit Wilcox or let Rondo dribble down the clock and chuck up a 3pter in the last 15 seconds of a tied game.

Its actually really simple. Doc gives a rotation/bench player limited minutes to prove that he can fit his role, execute and produce. When thats accomplished, he gives them more opportunity. Wilcox was not producing, so he restricted his minutes until he earned more and gave them to Collins who was proving every game that he could execute his role.

 

It may sound harsh or mean, but I think its for the betterment of the team AND the player. Whats the point of carelessly throwing out a player on the court for extended minutes when he can't get it done in the minutes he had been given? That is setting him up for failure.

Doc really doesn't have a choice but to play Wilcox now with Collins gone. The new guys might get a look, but it's hard to imagine them leap frogging Wilcox given they really don't know Doc's offense or his defesive rotations. 

He does look good of late, but is very injury prone. Let's hope he stays productive and healthy. 

I've noticed some of Doc's best moves happen when "he has no choice".
