I think that is a real possibility.  Rondo, Bass, Green may very well be shipped out in the offseason.  Humphries will be gone.  Next year may be the real tank.  Alot depends on draft night and where the Celtics end up in the lottery - I think this will have alot to do with Rondo's fate.

    TANK.....no.

    will they make the playoffs....no.

one year and one top 5 draft pick won't move us much in the standings NEXT year.

even Embiid,Parker or Wiggins will need time to be an all-star in the NBA. so no quick fixes in the draft.

for the Celtics to be a playoff team next year  Ainge will somehow work  soem majic and get a NBA all-star along WITH a top 5 pick this year....IMO.

    Again, we'll be :

    TANKING - WITH HONOR !!

There is such a lack of talent on this roster, of guys whose talents mesh well with the talents of those around them, that it will take AT LEAST another year before we can legitimately hope to enter the playoffs with hopes of more than "1 and done ".

These guys suck and even they know it...the vets on the team now WANT to leave to go to teams with a legit chance NEXT YEAR to get into the playoffs....we need to build a nucleus of good young players and gain enough cap space to buy a star or two to make a legit run at a championship...

We need to tank next year because of our bloated salary situation

No one is taking Rondo, Bass, Green, or Wallace off our hands.

Ainge sure gave a lot of money to a bunch of guys who aren't very good.

    In response to Fiercy's comment:

Depends on what Ainge will do on draft night.

If Ainge just delayed his big moves, instead of making big moves at the trade deadline last month, we could see a Rondo-less Celtics team next season.

No Rondo means the Celts will tank again next year.

But the Celts will not intentionally tank.

Ainge will just give Brad Stevens a roster that will be on pace for another top 3 or top 5 pick.

I think it is the opposite.

When I see Rondo, Bass, and Green going into the game, I know it's over.

The Cs may have to tank for a few years or more, depending on their luck.

In the NBA, a team can do all the right things and still have little or nothing to show for it.

Bass and Rondo are in the last year of their deals. For that reason they should be very moveable, as long as ainge doesn't want too much for them.

If Embiid and or Parker decide to stay in school, they might need to do the longest tank in history.

You might be right.  That will be very unfortunate for Philadelphia who may not win another game this season.  They can't sit Noel for another year.

Re: Will the Celts TANK next year?

Tank?  No, they won't tank if things go their way.

This team could turn around really quickly, depending on the ping pong balls.  If Rondo wants to stay and the Celtics get a top 2 pick, then they are in business.  I could easily see a trade for Kevin Love that includes Sullinger, the PP trade exception, the Bogans contract, Brooklyn's first rounder this year (16-19 range) and future #1 picks.

Then you are talking Rondo, Wiggins, Green, Love and a defensive Center (Asik ?) with Bradley, Olynyk, Wallace and Bass coming off the bench and Stevens at the helm.  THAT is a top 3-4 team in the East.

If they don't get a top 2 pick in the lottery, and Rondo makes it clear that he is moving on, then it will take longer.  Rondo will be traded (to Sacramento for Derrick Williams, Ben McLemore, their 7-10 pick and cap fodder??), the picks might be Smart/McDermott and they will let Humph, Bogans and Bayless go.

The new team will be Marcus Smart, Avery Bradley, Jared Sullinger, Jeff Green, Brandon Bass with some vet PG, Ben McLemore, Doug McDermott, Kelly Olynyk and Derrick Williams coming off the bench.  That team is likely lottery bound, but maybe in the 8-12 range.

So, with some luck, the Celtics could be near the top of the East next season.  Or, the rebuild could take a little longer.

Another Ainge hater. What danny did is all part of the rebuilding. We will have lots os drafts picks in next 5 years. The celtics are not too faraway for being a contender. They need a big in the middle and shooters in the wings. The present team is shooting in the middle 30%.No team wins lots of games shooting that bad.The big picture looks good.Go celtics.

Hard to tell. Eventhough C's have lost a bunch of games, their loses have not been by large margins. If Ainge trades, tank mode will be in...if he doesn't,  believe it or not,  we might make the playoffs.
