Workouts for an invitation to camp

Well the celtics have begun the campaign for their final invitees and the candidates are all Sf's or SG's: Adam Morrison has been in for two workouts and has been joined by Rashard McCants,Cuttino Mobley and Trent Hassell. The are all NBA players who are presently without employment and they all represent a definate skill level. So who do all of you guys want the Celtics to bring in a compete with West,Harangody and Erdan for one of the final spots on the roster?

McCants could work, but if Danny is looking for shooters, why not Morrison...I know he cannot defend but...

Out of these 4 guys along with West Wafer and Erdan..I would first cut Erdan..and would like to have McCants as he is bigger than West at 6'4 and younger than both Mobley and Hassel..TA was only 6'4 and was hellish on offense..Not sure about McCants defense..however the Celts play a team defense..and any points he gives up he can get back on offense...

Interesting points in referencing McCants and his offensive abilities, I think they are looking for a defensive player first and a guy who can hold his own offensively. before they signed Wafer, I was pushing for them to give McCants a shot based upon his familiarity with KG, but I think Hassell may have played with KG in Minny also, Morrison intrigues me just because he was a solid player at Gonzaga and Cuttino Mobley can flat out score! All of these guys are unique in their abilities and could easily make this team. As far as Erdan is concerned he has the talent but it is very raw as NBA standards are concerned. However he did comport himself very well in the FIBA championship games. He already can rebound with the NBA bigs, the question is his offensive skills and what they are or will be in 2 years.

Re: Workouts for an invitation to camp

Cutino Mobley was a terrific scorer, however do the Celtics really need another 6'3 shooting guard? I don't know about Morrison because about all I've seen of him is sitting on the Laker's bench and some garbage time minutes. He was a high draft pick and he's 6'8. McCants and Hassell are both respectable NBA players.
I doubt the C's will cut Delonte. It's possible Erden and or Harrangody will be cut or waived, depending on whether their contracts are guaranteed or not.
It will be an interesting pre-season. It's almost here. Right now I'm getting more sports fix with the S.F Giants being in the Western division race. Go Giants.

Yawn, training camp bodies. Hassell is the only one i would even consider because of his defense. I'm going back to bed nothing to see here.

From what I gleaned from the article the only one with even a remote possibility of making the team is Morrison and thats based upon his draft status and age.

If Erden is released I will not be surprised if a lot of teams will go after him. Right now even the Lakers wished they had Erden instead of a 37-year old Theo Ratliff.

Erden will be solid over time, he'll fit in with the eventual youth movement that will happen after a season or two. The only person IMO that would suit the Celtics would be Morrison. Why make the SG log jam even more full, I mean he had a lot of potential as a Bobcat. Also riding the bench to two championships had to enstill a lot of core values and rounded him as a player. It's worth a pick up

I agree.  That is just one reason that the rest of these invitees will be only getting a temporary paycheck during training camp.

Morrison has a small chance to replace Wafer due to his height.  Maybe Danny/Doc want to see if he can pick up any of the defensive system before settling on a final 15 player roster.

We need a defensive back-up SF.  The only one that fits the description is Hassel.
Is Morrisson a better fit than Wafer? Maybe, because he is more of a team player on offense.

In Response to Re: Workouts for an invitation to camp : Your kidding right? Cut the 2nd round steal of the draft or the young 7 footer just signed to a 2 year guaranteed contract coming off the FIBA finals! For one of these chumps? There are only two players on the roster that are potential cuts ... Wafer & West. Neither has a guaranteed contract and either or both could be released for almost nothing especially if they don't work out as planned in training camp. The other possibility is a two or three for one trade. Still plenty of time for things to happen.

You're over reacting to my post. I stated it's "possible" Erden or Harrangody could be cut. I hope either isn't cut. Both players have potential. The other outside possibility of a C on the roster being cut is Wafer. The other players on the roster are in this season, even Bradley as he's a number 19 pick. As I stated before, I can't imagine Delonte being cut. He's too good of a player and Ainge and Doc have always liked him.
The most likely scenerio is that all of the invites get cut as the C's already have 15 roster spots. I really don't understand why Ainge invited all these other guys to camp.

I look at Erden and think he could be an NBA player, but where does he get minutes?  Harangody too.  D leaguers?

McCants is a decent player, but has he played much in the past few seasons? Morrison just doesn't seem to be a fit, he seems pretty frail.  I have always liked Mobley, but I think he's at least 35 now?  Trenton Hassell?  Journeyman, may be a TA-type player as an undersized SF?  Not sure he's the "shooter" they're looking for.  McCants would just add to their stockpile of 2 guards.

From what I recall Erden has a non guaranteed contract  and from what i saw of him in summer league, he looks like a stiff to me.

If they are looking for a good all player Mccants would be my choice.  looking for a good shooter morrison is the man.

Thought Erden was guaranteed.  Haven't seen him in Euroleague, but he looked decent enough playing for the Tukish national team.  Will he get any minutes if here?  Can't see how, unless there are injuries.

A blogger stated here about a month or so ago that Erden's contract was guaranteed for the first year but not the second year.

Here's an update to those who have been invited too Celtic Camp: Stephane Lasme the 6'8" SF who played his college ball at U-Mass,Jamar Smith the former SG from Southern Indiana University who averaged 20 ppg last season, and Chris Johnson the former LSU Center who will have some support in his corner in BBD and Shaq..

In Response to Re: Workouts for an invitation to camp : Lasme could be useful. Played PF/C at UMass and was defensive player of the year and their career shot block leader and possibly rebounder as well (ahead of Camby) ... offense at the SF spot may be questionable but quickness, length and wingspan to play D against guards, SF's and some PF's .... Intriguing!

I agree. Pierce's back up doesn't have to be a big scorer. Someone who is 6'7 or 6'8 who is a good defender is what we're looking for. The C's second unit has plenty of scoring punch with Nate, Delonte, Wafer, either O'neal and Big Baby.
I did a little research on him. He's in his late 20's and has little NBA experience. However he has a lot of experience playing pro ball over seas. As you mentioned, his college stats were terrific. I hope he turns out to be a defensive specialist that is a late bloomer like Bruce Bowen. Anything is possible.
