BC fans prefer the ACC to the Big East

BC fans prefer the ACC to the Big East

    How do we know?

    Attendance.

Looking at attendance figures from 1995 to 2010 shows that BC fans prefer going to see ACC opponents than Big East opponents.

Looking over that time period here is the attendance rankings for ACC and Big East opponents:

    1. Miami (ACC) - 44,500
    2. Virginia Tech (ACC) - 43,510
    3. Syracuse (Big East) - 42,627
    4. Florida state (ACC) - 41,531
    5. Clemson (ACC) - 41,167
    6. West Virginia (Big East) - 41,648
    7. Maryland (ACC) - 41,115
    8. NC State (ACC) - 40,200
    9. Connecticut (Big East) - 39,983
    10. Wake Forest (ACC) - 39,845
    11. Pittsburgh (Big East) - 39,928
    12. Temple (Big East) - 39,254
    13. Rutgers (Big East) - 38,253

The ACC consistently outranks the Big East when it comes to attendance at home football games.

The idea that BC fans prefer the Big East is a myth.

Re: BC fans prefer the ACC to the Big East

Meh. Miami and VT are old Big East rivals, the closest thing BC has to a football rivalry. So you could say that the top three here are Big East. UConn, Rutgers, Temple were crap in football when BC was in the Big East. And some of the actual numeric differences in these ranings are quite small. So's BC's football stadium for that matter.

Fallacy of the average a bit here, too. What's the attendance compared to these school's records? To BC's record? To the overall average attendence? By year? To the schools that joined the Big East after BC left?

That's half my point. People who say BC should go back to the Big East are saying that BC should re-join a conference that doesn't have Miami and Virginia Tech.

Re: BC fans prefer the ACC to the Big East

Why would BC want to re-engage the Big East?  After all, there are such great geographic rivalries in the ACC for BC such as Virginia Tech and Georgia Tech.  There must be at two students at GT or Va Tech that have freinds that go to BC.  BC students would love to visit their friends on those campuses for a weekend of revelry while away from Chestnut Hill.
Within the distance to BC's closest rival in Maryland, the Big East offers how many good teams to challenge?  SU, UConn, Rutgers for football and dozens in hoops and the non-revenue sports.
BC joined the ACC for one reason and one reason only....they aren't going back to The Big East anytime soon friends!

    False.

You obvioulsy don't know any current BC students.

Current BC students do not have a ton of friends at UCONN, Rutgers, West Virginia or Pitt. If they do, the certainly aren't interested in spending the weekend at one of those places when they could be in Chestnut Hill.

The one exception is Syracuse. The BC students and the Syracuse students do overlap and come from the same pool. However, BC does play Syracuse currently, so there is no need to re-join the Big East to go on a road trip to Syracuse.

However, even in Syracuse last November there were not a ton of BC students at the game. I know becuase I was there.

This LP-esque line of arguing (LP is that you?) that the current students are somehow missing going on road trips could only be said by someone who doesn't know a lot of current BC students.

This isn't the 70s anymore. BC students overlap much more with UVA, Virginia Tech, Miami, Wake, Duke, etc.

As a somewhat young alumni I have many more friends who went to current ACC schools (VATech, Miami, Duke, etc.) than Big East Football schools.

Yup, Gatzie (and all his other incarnations on this board), Eagle fans do support the school's presence in the ACC.

And there are no legitimate questions about Obama's birthplace either, are there?

Syracuse is opting for the Big Ten ... Daily Iowan: signed committment with the Hawkeyes for 5 years ... BC is a blip on the 'Cuse radar screen ... For the 'Cuse, Iowa, or BC certainly a slam dunk between 85,000 or a band box + the Big Ten Network $$$$$$$$$ share ....

    UCONN ROCKS!

Actually, there are no legit questions about Obama's birthplace for normal, rational people.  Only nutjobs like you fall for that garbage.  Par for the course though.

Check the FACTS, men, and ye shall be enlightened.

We don't have the answer, but there ARE valid questions.

But then, again, it is so easy to resort to name-calling and charges of racism.

    Peace.
