    Re: Finally! GDF is "retiring"

"DeFilippo took over the BC athletic department in 1997 after 13 football players had been suspended for betting on games -- then the biggest gambling scandal in NCAA history. He presided over its switch from the Big East to the Atlantic Coast Conference, a move that led to hard feelings among his colleagues in the school's longtime league.

But the school also had its successes: BC won four hockey titles during DeFilippo's tenure and 11 national team and individual sailing championships and had 12 consecutive winning seasons in football, a streak that was snapped last year. BC has also annually ranked near the top of the NCAA graduation rates for athletes.

DeFilippo also ushered in improvements to the BC athletic facilities and fields, including a new, $27 million Yawkey Athletics Center that houses the football team offices and locker room. During his tenure, donations supporting BC athletics rose from $5 million a year to more than $20 million in 2011."

Ups n downs for sure, won't be allot of consoling Eagle fans around Chesnut Hill though.

In Response to Finally! GDF is "retiring":
I think his legacy will be more of a petty little man who ran most of the BC sports into the ground.  I doubt he is retiring and not being forced out but this begs the question, will BC become relevant now that the albatross of an athletic director is going to be gone?

Uniforms are terrible but not surprising for a team desparate to get attention

    Re: Finally! GDF is "retiring"

GDF came in and went to work on a program that was too much for his predecessor to handle.  And who can forget the Gladchuck era?  So GDF was up to the task and did a good job at the beginning.  After the BE to ACC debates though, he took a lot of criticism, and the rest of his decisions had mixed results.

Towards the end, he issued some odd quotes that seemed unprofessional and liquid-fueled. Particulalry, his constant expression of disdain for Uconn is unacceptable for senior leadership.  Deservedly, he leaves under pressure, but it wasn't all bad.  I for one am glad there will be change at the top.  It'll be interesting to see new directions for the organization in a year or two.

And a ripple effect - Spaz can start planning how to use his golden chute soon.

As the Red Sox, BC is after birth with little respect among NCAA Divison 1 football programs.

Take a look at their sporting venues an absolute disgrace. A dual basketball/hockey facility, a dump of a football stadium, and the only recruits BC can entertain are rejects from Pop Warner!

It's not Flippo, its the mentality of the Northeast and the way the rest of the Nation views BC athletics  ... an easy WIN with no sweat in the NE rust belt....

He's known as the man who kicked the crap out of ucon. You sued him and he won. Your president pulled up her skirt for the acc and he said "no thanks, you're ugly". ucon never beat BC and the puppies couldn't beat GDF.

Climb back into your toxic waste site, you sound like a bitter girl.
