Things do not change much in the ridge.  Frequently I wonder how sad it is to live with a bastion of losers where College athletics resembles High School pick up ensembles on the left coast and tasteless blogs have no meaning but nondescript and uninspiring children’s frolics.

[QUOTE]It's been two and a half weeks since Mark Blaudschun's revealing column detailing his interview with Stevie Wonder appeared in the Globe on May 27th. Isn't it interesting that none of the camp followers here mentioned that column here. Hmmmm Now just why would that be, think ye? Well, maybe if we review the highlights of the piece, perhaps we can understand why there's been silence from the Uber Alles crowd. Stevie "remembers the bad old days, when he was trying to establish himself as a head coach at Cornell. He had a team with little talent that produced few wins and drew few fans. Some gatherings at Cornell's Newman Arena could be measured by the dozens."  Sound familiar? Stevie's team is "coming off a 21-13 season." Stevie "basically coached a team assembled by former coach Al Skinner, including All- ACC guard Reggie Jackson."    Hmmm "Jackson is gone, having opted to skip his senior season and enter next month's NBA draft. So is the core group of seniors and other Skinner recruits, leaving  BC in a rebuilding mode with lots of scholarships to give and some major reconstruction work for Donahue and his staff." Stevie's response to that plight" "It's fun and it's challenging." DOUBLE   Hmmm Stevie's assessment of the present:  At Cornell, we had some long, lean years and you questioned yourself and asked "When it is ever going to turn?...   IMPRESSIVE SAGACITY THERE, STEVIE WONDER. BASED ON YOUR TRACK RECORD, EAGLE FANS WILL BE ASKING THEMSELVES THAT SAME QUESTION FOR MOST OF THE NEXT DECADE.  AND LET'S NOT DEPART WITHOUT ANOTHER DESERVED SHOUT-OUT TO THE GENII WHO BROUGHT US THIS LONG- LASTING CHAOS:      OUR SELF-ESTEEMED DEAR LEADER, AND HIS MINION AD!

Oh, here we go again. Longputter, do you realize how ridiculous you come across to people. You are forever swimming in negativity in regards to Boston College athletics.

It is not even close to basketball season, yet and you are already harping on stuff that will not even be relevant until the month of October.

Come on, give the rest of us a break. You are always asking for substance yet you provide none from your end when asked by others.

I believe you are just on these forums to get responses like this one. For whatever weird reason, you seem to thrive on this type of activity.

If that is what floats your boat, then you have to do what you have to do in order to feel good about yourself. For most of the rest of us, it is darn right boring.

[QUOTE]In Response to Re: From the Horse's Mouth: The Future is Bleak at Conte : No one answers you anymore LP because it's not worth it.  You have a closed mind and are unwilling or unable to engage in adult back n forth, give n take conversation.  Mind you, no one on here has ever said SD is the savior and has fully succeeded.  Rather, we have all basically said we like the start he's had, he seems to be moving in the right direction, but at the end of the day time will tell.  That's it. You are fighting tooth and nail to try and prove to us that he's a failure.  Well he's not.  He's nothing now, there hasn't been enough time.  But we are sick of trying to talk to you about it.  We would rather sit back and see what happens.  So we get it.  You think he's terrible, the program is sinking, Al is a better coach, the Gang of 2 is evil, too any 3s won't work, the Flex is better, and he will fail fail fail, blah blah blah....  WE GET IT. You will either be right or wrong.  I wish you luck with it.

Why did LP start this thread?  SD took part in an interview and answered some questions honestly.  Does anyone think he and his staff will not try their best to put a good team on the floor while maintaining all standards as required? I guess LP does.

SD commented on his early years at Cornell, that does not make it so for those at BC.

Why does this: "Stevie's response to that plight" "It's fun and it's challenging." DOUBLE Hmmm" represent a double hummer for LP?

We read the article, so what's LP's point in quoting it and sharing his negative interpretations of every comment?

Re: From the Horse's Mouth: The Future is Bleak at Conte

Exactly.  This is why he's become such a bore.  Before he would at least put some effort into his argument and have somewhat of a valid point that we could all debate.  Now I don't even know what he's getting at.  Because SD said it took a while at Cornell to right the ship makes him a "disaster" at BC?  I mean, how do you even begin to discuss that as it's so far away from making any sense at all.

Bottom line is that for someone to claim SD is a disaster after one season in which he won 20+ games and had the team on the NCAA bubble is senseless, petty, and straight up moronic.

As I said above that he has yet to respond to.  He acts like we are all bowing at the feet of SD singing is praises as the savior of BC.  We aren't.  The rational crew is simply pleased with his start, but it's only a start and time will tell how successful he is.  To judge him already just makes no sense.

    Mo,

Unwise of you to bash The Irish.

We can only DREAM of being in the position in hoops that they hold.

With the best college hoops coach in Boston now at Emerson, they are likely to be competitive with ND sooner than we will be, thanks to The Gang of Two.

    Peace.

    How about those minutes?

How about the lack of publicity in college guides about the admin's duplicity?

How do you explain />32K applications including I believe a record number this year?

How about the turnover figures for the past 15 years?

What about criticism for Calhoun and the suspension, while bringing up other such things at BC which no one in the College was associated with? How about the dismal APR and loss of now three scholaships?

How about PC losing eight scholarship basketball athletes in two years?  Shouldn't the AD and Pres be held accountable for creating an atmosphere where this can happen?

Is losing a scholaship athlete ok because a new coach did not want to keep him?  If so what are the other reasons why it is ok when an athelete leaves when a new coach comes on board?  Is it ok if the kid decides on his own to leave?

Notre Dame Expects Worst: Major Violation

August 07, 1999|By Malcolm Moran, Tribune Staff Writer.

Notre Dame officials expect the NCAA to rule that the university has committed the first major violation in its history, the Tribune has learned.

They anticipate the Committee on Infractions will determine that members of the athletic department should have done more to learn of gifts football players received from convicted embezzler Kim Dunbar
