    How Can These Things Be?

    Mirabile dictu.

    1.   The Eagles were shunned by the NCAA Tournament.

    ·          Just one year ago, Dear Leader & Flippo took the brilliant step of axing the best hoops coach in school history (and the only black one, at that) and replacing him with a genius who, it was said, would take us to new heights.

    ·      The result? We're playing in Lake Charles, Louisiana against McNeese State.

    ·      Huh?

    2.   ACC gets 4 teams into NCAA, while Big East gets 11.

    ·      Didn’t Flippo and Dear Leader tell us that we were going to a better conference?

    ·      Instead, it looks like they took us from the majors to the Class D League.

Thanks, boys.  When will YOU be accountable?

Re: How Can These Things Be?

    Right here

One must look at the conference overall not just in hoop.  For all sports this has been an improvement including stuff like soccer and baseball.  The move was a football power conference move.

At this time last year where were we playing?

We were considered on the bubble this year; for two of the last three years we were not even close with a conference record 10 games under 500.

Steve had a winning record in his first year despite the critical defection of 3 players who went to outstanding programs (according to you).  It took AS 4 years to achieve the same.

I feel very good about the direction of where the athletic and academic program is headed

Honestly, aren't you bored yet of spewing garbage?  Doesn't it get old?

    1. The NEW coach won 5 more games this year than the OLD coach.  So looking at it that way, they made the right move.  The real talking point is that one season, especially a first season, should not be used to determine the worth of a coach.

    2. One season does not make one conference better than another.  Such a weak argument.

And if you don't believe #2, then I'll he happy, to once again, show you the stats that have the ACC being the better conference over the past 10, 15, and 20 years in basketball.

But yes, if your argument is that the BE is better than the ACC this 2011 hoops season, then you won!  Congrats, well done, real deep and meaningful point!

Grow up and come up with some deeper more adult arguments.

Answer this truthfully, if you will.

Are you The Gang of Two, posting under your respective screen names?

How else to explain the unthinking, threatened and myopic content of your camp-follower "logic?"

My posts are fact based which helps form my opinion.  I have no axe to grind including those with AS who is everything you described, but was no longer a fit with the program as the admin saw it.  BTW, how did he last 12 years with the program if the 'gang of two" is so bad?

    Mo,

The only dead thing is the men's basketball program @ The Institute.

Now, in addition to all the other ignominies which Flippo & Dear Leader have foisted upon us, we are now not even the best college hoops team on Commonwealth Avenue.

The Terriers of BU have wrested that distinction from us.

So if Steve D won 20 games and the program is dead, does that mean the program was also dying when Al had losing season in 2 or his last 3 years?  Please explain.

    LP,

We know what this is about.

First - you had some lazy, incompetent friends with the skills and motivation of your average welfare mother who were "working" at BC.  They thought that they had hit the gravy train: show up, do the absolute minimum and get paid.  Akin to the very low standards BC had back in the 50s. Then Fr. Leahy showed up and showed those moochers the door. And they cried abbout it. Wahhh! Wahh! We were entitled to jobs for life! Your ususal collection of gimmie gals and gimmie guys, usually associated with Massport and your local welfare office. I am sure they are upset at losing their little cushy payday, but it is a different day at the Heights as we finally try to live up to our slogan of Ever to Excel. If you can't hack it - like a certain coach who gave us two out of three losing seasons - you are shown the door. Sorry, the school is run for the benefit of the students, not the employees.

Second, your racial resentment that students of non-European descent are on campus and getting financial aid.

Combining a sense of economic entitlement with racial resentment...you must have been quite the supporter of Louise Day Hicks and George Wallace back in the day?

Good thing the current Administration has no time for mediocrites like yourself.

Keep whining on the internet - no one is listening.

I will continue to associate with people like Peter Lynch and Jack Connors, you can keep associating with the Jerry Springer crowd.

    Mo,

Stevie Wonder won 20 on the backs of Coach Skinner's players (though he was too insecure to mention that), nearly all of whom will be gone next season.

His 2 recruits were wastes: one wound up not playing the last third of the year; the other shows little promise.

So, he'll have to ride Reggie and the next class of marginal recruits he brings in.

His biggest contribution was the Albany kid from the Plex, who hit an occasional jumper.

The rest? Nice kids, who should be playing intramurals.

His strategy, as Bob Ryan points out in his column today, was the three - a foolish reliance by any norm

What y'all fail to grasp, apparently, is the big picture in football and hoops (hockey is a pleasant exception, and, happily,  is not part of the mindless move to the ACC).  In the two prime media sports, The Institute is sinking into near-permanent fourth-ratehood, while the unthinking lap dogs delude themselves into thinking it still has major status.

Big time coaches have no interest in coming here; neither do talented children of alumni jocks; we can't get top-tier athletes. Hard as it may be to swallow, even ND hoops has left us in the dust. Georgetown and Nova did that long ago.
And if they make a smart hire, the Friars down the road might just do the same in a few short years.

And on the gridiron, we continue to flounder with unimpressive records, and are relegated to meaningless bowls. Spaz is a fine man and solid coach, but his hands are tied by the inability of The Institute to draw A-list players.

Why did Tom O'Brien bail for an in-conference opponent? Why did Jags interview with the Jets?  Simple. They both wanted out of the corrosive atmosphere here, which is skillfully hidden from the public.

Despite all this, the "faithful" continue to succumb, dutifully paying rocketing prices as the product continues to plummet.

Ah, the value of delusion to those in charge.

The ONLY chance to right this ship is to replace The Gang of Two.

    Period.

THAT would be Change We Can Believe In.

Meanwhile, y'all eagerly gear up for our latest epic battle - in an NIT game at Lake Charles, Louisiana tomorrow night against - are you ready for this? - McNeese State.

Is that becuase you have never had an emotionaly intimate relationship with a woman other than your mother?  As you don't know what it is like to have an adult relationship with a female, you automatically think of the mother-son relationship?

Your post is one long series of falsehoods powered by your projections and not facts.

The more you post the more you continue to show you know you nothing about sports and particular, sports at BC.

Tom O'Brien left because he was told he would not be given a contract extension.

Jags left because he liked the pro game and not the college game.

As for Spaz, if Jags could win the division two years in a row why can't Spaz?  The fact that they won the division under Jags but didn't under Spaz is somehow the fault of....Fr. Leahy? No, I don't think so.

And as for Coach Donahue's recruiting. He was hired in April of last year. By April the vast majority of recruits are already committed! Either you don't know what you are talking about or you are deliberately being disingenuous.

Finally, his recruits for next year are in no way "marginal".  Ryan Anderson is the 28th best player in the country!

First off all, well done on once again avoiding the question of if the program is dead under Steve's 20 wins, it must have been already dead under Al's losing seasons.

My issue with you, among many, is you take one single incident and try and use it as evidence for some grander conclusion.

You: Steve's only recruits did nothing.
Reality: He hasn't had a full recruiting class yet.

You:  Our alum don't want their kids to play here.
Reality: The kid is good enough to PLAY AT DUKE!!

You: Tom OB wanted so badly out of here he went in conference
REality: He wanted to move closer to his home in the mid Atlantic

You: Jags interviewed with the Jets because it was so bad here
Reality: He wanted out of college and into the pros

    You: BC football is doomed
Reality: We will see, but playing over 20 Fresh and Sophmores on a competitive team seems to me they are in line to have good season not to mention they had a top 35 recruiting class.

I am NOT saying that football or hoops are going to be #1 anytime soon, but when have they ever.  At BC they strive to graduate 90%+ and be competitive in their conference.  There is no reason why that won't continue.

You on the other hand take a small act or point and blow it up to mean the doom of BC or why the gand of two are evil doers.  You are a sensationalist, plain and simple.  No one believes your garbage.  You are the only one who makes outlandish points and tries to argue them till our eyes bleed.  everyone else is pretty basic saying "i liked what steve did this season, i'll wait to fully judge until he gets a couple more under his belt"  You say "he lost to yale and harvard and can only recruit from the plex, he's terrible, no good, and is going to hell..."

My conclusion.  Continue to spew your garbage.  It's entertaining.  No one take you seriously.  Really dude, you are this board's Charlie Sheen.  We enjoy to watch you flounder as you make an total a** out of yourself.

    LP,

To build on Momort's point, BC won 15 games last year and did not qualify for any tournament.  SD did not get a full recruiting year and lost 3 of the best players in the program to what you claim are better basketball programs.  Yet they won 33% more games and are invited to play in the NIT as a #1 seed.

You claim the program is dead, seems like an improved record points in the opposite direction.  You also claim poor attendance, I will wait for the final analysis from Provpats but it seems like attendance per game was up this year.

Finally, as usual, when confronted with facts in one thread you decide not to respond to those facts you start another thread where you start all over again.  We are calling you on it . . . and as Gatzie noted, you are being disingenuous.  And an Internet troll to boot.

has anyone on this site even ventured to say that BC was worthy after clemson?  The answer is no whz; please define miserable after being picked for 10th in the ACC ended up as 6th with 20 wins and being talked about as an NCAA pick

I do not understand CO but VT had beaten Duke and lost to BC twice.  Greenburg is a media personality and that helps with all the gnashing of teeth
