    How far we have fallen

Want some indicators of the sinking state of athletics at alma mater?

    Try these:

    1. The alumni magazine which recently arrived advertises NOW for season tickets in football, basketball and hockey. Think you could do that at ND?

    2. This very site on the Globe page now contains ads for BC season football tickets. This on August 27th!

    3. The athletic department has recently notified alumni athletes that it will waive the annual $1000 per seat PSL for them now. WHAT DOES THAT SAY?

    4. With the loss of Phillips (transfer to UConn), Okorona (dismissal from the team) and LeGrande (transferring AS A SENIOR), the football program is flailing. Have we become the LSU of the north?

    5. The desperate state of the mens hoops program is known nationally.

    6. Only a paltry few travel to away games in hoops and football.

    Thanks, Dear Leader and Flippo.

    1. Being active & soliciting tix sales is..bad?? How myopic can you get?
One could do that @ Our Lady; why ask?
    2. BC advertising in the Globe is positive & not too soon; first game is next Sat.
    3. AD responding to alum-athletes; again, positive. Nice to see the AD pro-active.
    4. Player can't hit the books? Bye-bye. Legrande oozing away as a senior; great career move, genius! More Jagged recruits that never lived up to their hype.
    5. The "renaissance" of the bb team is what your dtr should have typed.
    6. Aren't you proud to be in the majority...for once?!
That's it, LongSputter, keep lobbing those soft-balls!

    Wait, there's more.

Now BCI has offered season ticket holders a pair of free tickets to THREE games this season.

    Why?

Could it be they fear a series of embarrassing turnouts?

Whatta major league program Dearl Leader & Flippo have wrought!

BC will put forward a crap program this Fall with the injuries and Harris gone for the first two games; a tough opponent in Notre Dame, FSU, VT!  Look for the insipid Eagles to go 6-6 again conservatively and off to Toilet City USA in December without the Band.

Re: How far we have fallen

Putt, I think the ads are necessary.  Ticket sales are down throughout college sports if you notice the economic difficulty facing people...or are you tenured in a basement somewhere?  Not to say that the program does not need more fan support, because it does.

Trouble with the roster will either be Spaz's falling out or his rising from the Jag ashes.  Either way, he's making a stand so good for him.  To compare such roster activity at BC with the violence and legal troubles at LSU is simply another display of how hateful and negative you are towards the school.

As for lpga whor, what else would we expect.  Will you at least grab a bucket and help Mom bail out your basement bedroom?

And Putt, eliminate your signature will you please?

    BOW,

Do you see ND, Michigan or other top powers giving away tickets to 3 games, frantically waiving PSLs for certain alumni, or still grovelling for buyers a week before the opener?

    NOT!

Next, what follows is NOT a knock on Spaz, whom I admire. BUT to say there are Jags "ashes" is foolish, except for the hurt that befell the program from his unjust firing after yet another temper tantrum by our "leader." Jags' 2 years rank with the best in Eagle history.

The roster "activity" may have more to it than meets the surface. Time will tell.

Oh, yeah: The signature is just fine, thank you.

    Read and ye shall learn.

    Peace, and safety during Irene.

Re: How far we have fallen

Ticket sales  are down  at some schools      but not at the ones where football matters.

Sanford Stadium   Athens, Georgia  92,746     you can get on a waiting list  if you'd like to invest a few grand  with the Athletic Association..   Tickets are renewed and games are sold out   by  Feb. 1st...
For tickets to the Chik fil a  bowl  next  week     Georgia had    60%   and Boise 30%  for Dome Seating       Georgia then bought up  half of Boises allotment  when they were returned unsold.

Meanwhile   about   a Tiger Woods   drive and a fairway wood down the street at Bobby Dodd  Georgia Tech    expanded it capacity from 43,719  to 55,000 in 2002  and is like BC running ads in the Atlanta Journal Constitution for season tickets.
After  Wake  31,000  and Duke  33,941    BC is  3rd smallest at 44,500...

Is it Boston is just not a college sports town  or that ACC football   is just not exciting..

Who is BC's natural rival in the ACC ? Maryland ?

Thanks God for the big fat ACC TV contract ..

Putt, no, I don't see the major powers giving away tickets and I wouldn't know about the PSl waive.  I don't visit those sites with any regularity so I wouldn't see it if it were happening. Thus, I didn't discuss those claims.  I do think it's wise to advertise and try to get more fans to the games.  Don't know how you could argue that BC should not have a marketing program that continues up to game day, so do the Sox despite a sold out park.

You must know this is not the same market as South Bend or Ann Arbor.  BC needs to spend valuable resources just to attract a piece of the market. Admittedly, they need to play better and keep improving the schedule too.

I still disagree, the roster moves are nothing similar to LSU and you seem to be hoping for trouble and assuming the worst, rather than waiting for factual reporting.

    Enjoy Irene.

    The signature, uggh...please...

Here's our descent in a nutshell.

Today, the day before the Eagle opener vs Northwestern, you can still buy not only tickets for that game, but season tickets as well. Just go on line and follow directions.

At ND, however, you can do none of that.  To the contrary: they have a LOTTERY to get tickets in their much larger stadium.

So, a word to the unwise who ridicule the program the Irish run: hush up, till (if ever) our demand rivals theirs.

How do we compete? Get a complete overhaul here, starting with Dear Leader and Flippo hitting the bricks.

Putt, you're right, but in terms of attendance or advance ticket sales, we were not competing with ND football long before GD arrived.  So was that a failure on the same level of all those before him?
