Should uconn eliminate its athletic program?

The football team can't compete even in the weak, depleted big east and lost to a mediocre MAC team. Fans won't fill their small time stadium and the fans that do show up are only there to get drunk.
The basketball team has long been known and despised for it's cheating and blatant disregard for rules, and has lost 7 of the last 10.
The always overrated soccer team once again choked at the end of the season.
The hockey team routinely loses to the likes of Bentley and Sacred Heart
"Student athletes" end up in jail before they graduate, or if they do survive 4 years, get a diploma but can't read.
The entire athletic program has been a disgrace to the university and the entire state for years.

Is it time to stop wasting taxpayers money on this disgraceful athletic program and put the money to better use?

    Thoughts?

The program should at least pay for itself and stop living off taxpayer subsidies.

JUST HOW FAR THEY'VE COME UND

    • Following its 65-58 loss at Rutgers on Jan. 16, Notre Dame stood at 11-8 overall and 3-3 in the BIG EAST. Prior to its nine-game win streak, Notre Dame was averaging 68.9 ppg. and allowing its opponents 64.4 ppg. Over the course of the last nine games, the Irish are averaging 67.0 ppg, but allowing their opponents just 55.7 points. In three of those contests, Notre Dame held its opponent to under 50 points.

    MONUMENTAL MOMENTS 2012 UND basketball:

Notre Dame's current nine-game win streak has produced some significant achievements for the Fighting Irish program.

    • The streak began with a 67-58 home win over #1 Syracuse. It was Notre Dame's 10th victory all-time against a top-ranked opponent and the first since 1987.
    • The Irish snapped Seton Hall's 12-game home win streak in a 55-42 victory. The Pirates had been 10-0 at home this season. Seton Hall's 42 points were the fewest Notre Dame has ever allowed against a BIG EAST opponent.
    • The 50-48 win at Connecticut marked the first time in program history that Notre Dame has won consecutive games at Connecticut. It also was just the second win ever at Hartford's XL Center for the Irish.
    • The victory over Marquette snapped its seven-game win streak and it also marked Notre Dame's first two-game win streak over the Golden Eagles since they joined the BIG EAST in 2005.
    • The win at West Virginia halted Notre Dame's three-game losing streak in Morgantown.
    • Notre Dame overcame a 20-point deficit in a 74-70 overtime win at Villanova on Feb. 18.

"Fans won't fill their small time stadium"?  Um, Alumni Stadium in Chestnut Hill only has 4500 more seats than Rentschler Field.  Rentschler makes up for that slight difference by providing a much better tailgating scene for UConn fans and visiting fans.  (That is not a diss to BC fans as much as it is a diss to the whiny neighbors in Brookline and Newton who apply pressure on the school to limit tailgating.)

ScreenNameGoesHere, you are just a hater.  All of the hardcore UConn haters need to get a life.  I am guessing that you are not a BC Alum, but instead a troll who is merely here trying to "stir the pot" between UConn fans and BC fans.

If Rentschler wasn't filled by corporate seats thinking they're in Adrians Landing/Patriots Stadium, UCon would be playing in the Yankee Conference again.

Posted by Lordship[/QUOTE] Not surprising that Uconn fans want to continue to slam BC. That way, they don't have to talk about the walking disaster that is the Uconn Men's BB program right now. Let's see: #4 preseason pick in both the AP and Coaches poll. Now, they are 7-10 in conference and just lost to a now 4-13 PC team. Add to this the PR nightmare of the academic issues - APR and grad rates - and possibly being excluded from the NCAA Tourney next year due to the APR issue; not to mention the recent recruiting violations and loss of scholarships! I am not surprised they want to talk about BC!

Eagle, it's just one big inferiority complex.  Why else would you waste so much time on a message board trying to convince everyone that Uconn is better than BC?  It's hilarious.

1978; at the game last night than shut up! Saw your Everett High School want a bees win their 9th, but almost blew it, before 800 Notre Dame rejects. Miami up next, away from Route 128, and then you can go away, and book your vacation to "Provincetown"!
