    UMass Season Post Mortem

This season was a tad of a disappointment. Although the Minutemen will likely get a #1 or #2 seed in the NIT and host a home game or two, there is a sense this team should have accomplished more. They couldn't win the big game when they needed to.

Better luck next season. It does look bright.

    Massachusetts

The Minutemen played well against VCU in stretches but came up short in the Atlantic-10 semifinals. A winning record away from home helps, but they have no top-25 wins and finished just 9-7 in the A-10 regular season.

Poor Showing for the ACC projection; shows one how weak Buffoons really were despite the Globe and Buffoons hype in the ACC. None will be in the Elite Eight.

ACC (4): Duke, Miami (FL), North Carolina, North Carolina State.

Big East (8): Cincinnati, Georgetown, Louisville*, Marquette, Notre Dame, Pittsburgh, Syracuse, Villanova

    • Congrats HARVARD!

B.com has gotten much better at managing the forums.  Maybe they should let the person who starts a discussion thread have admin rights to that thread, deleting or hiding the clown postings meant to hijack and divert the proposed discussion.  Maybe then Red could have a discussion about UMass without the multiple-logon forever 12 yr olds flaming it all up.

On topic, Red, it was a good season.  They missed out on a few big wins, which might be part of coach and player maturity kicking in, but looking better for the next few years.

VCU is like Albany one and done.... Don't weed out Bultler in the dance they are strong.

UM does not get the talent to be successful. Need to get rid of Kellogg, average player, and average Coach. Bring in Jimmy O'Brien, good coach and would love to stick it to the Buffoons at lilly BC!

Should be jumping on your sister Univ. there in Lowell Red? Some big time Hockey program in the Merrimack Valley Least.

Not having the 30th game against BC really hurt. If we played that game against a Power 6 team and won that could have gotten us closer to the field.

Having BC on your schedule would hurt... Selection committee decision is based on: not who you played, and won, its who you played and lost as the criteria.

In kind to the great legal books ... The Dissenting Opinions of Antonio Scalia, or The Nine in adjudicating the NCAA decisions of who gets in, and who gets left out. Playing an ACC fraud, as BC, would be an easy leave out, and this is why the NCAA was not impressed with ACC scheduling before conference competition, it was soft. ACC is not an elite conference, as there time is gone.

BTW: Saint Louis and Butler are very good teams and were rewarded.

Its a shame Umass couldnt get past VCU. That would have likely put them into the big dance. Kellog is not the problem, in fact, I think he is a good coach for the team and the type of players the program attracts. Recruiting talent to Amherst is going to be tough but the better the A-10 gets (which its already very tough) the better the progams should get overall.

Big game at the Mullins Center tonight. They should be able to put together a nice little run in this tourney, just like they did last year.

Call me crazy but having seen a few Saint Louis games this year and their big wins against ranked opponents, I wouldn't be surprised to see them beat Oklahoma St and even... Rick Pitino's Cards! Gotta root for the A-10 boys.

Jim 'Brien should stay right where he is... at Emerson College with his .500 team.

Shocking... the globe doesnt even reference Umass playing in the NIT tonight.

    God forbid... our State University.

Globe is a waste, as Boston College who are nobodies out here in the Land of the Big City Lights. Tough on BC staying at home and watching from a depressed snow ridden Bean town the Best Game in the Nation NCAA Tourney!

It's the NIT. Casual fans care as much about the NIT as UMass did in last nights game. The NIT is more relevant to teams like Stony Brook or Robert Morris.
