    Apparently cambridge should be alright this year. they graduated their best players and this year their team is full of youngsters. People should never count Cambridge out though because they always seem to surprise everyone every season. A source told me they lost to newton 2-1 and easily beat bedford 1-0 in preseason. newton should be a force this year and cambridge MIGHT JUST BE THE SURPRISE TEAM THIS YEAR.

    it was newton north and they looked really good actually, they overplayed cambridge for about 90% of the game. They have two really good central midfielders and they have other good players everywhere around the pitch. they should do really good this year, i'd be surprise if they don't. WHAT ABOUT THE GBL... what do you guys think of Cambrdge, Somerville,Medford and Malden

    I think you guys will fight it out with Malden for 4th, after Somerville, Medford and Everett. Even so, you guys can still make the tournament this season. Whether you make the tourney will depend on your nonconference schedule. Going 2-4-2 in the GBL with a young team would be an adequate goal. I think you guys will need to sweep Malden to have a good shot at the tourney.

    Maybe you can tell us more about Cambridge. Just for some trivia, can you tell me the last year that Cambridge emerged as D-1 North champs?

    One more update, latest.

    North Andover may be better than last season. Lexington and Winchester in the Middlesex and then a major dropoff. Woburn and Reading, maybe Burlington sneaks in this second tier group. Brookline takes the conference over Framingham this year. Wellesley just okay. In the DCL, other than CC and L-S............A-B, Westford, Weston and Wayland are looking fairly solid.

    Coach: Steve Frank (17th year)

    2009 record: 3-12-3.

    Top returners: Sr. Sweeper Ryan Fox, Sr. Stopper Matt Lopes, Sr. FB D.J. Bucklin, Sr. FB A.J. Sughrue, Jr. G Torrey Medeiros, Jr. MF Samuel Martins.

    Key newcomers: Sr. MF Nick Pacheco, Sr. MF Jake Vieira, Sr. MF Jay Sousa, Sr. MF Kris George, Soph. Matt Vidal, Fr. MF Ben Silvia.

    Outlook: Looking to rebound and get back to the state tournament with a team that took its lumps last season, but picked up some experience along the way. Medeiros is a good keeper who will benefit from playing with veterans Fox, Lopes, Bucklin and Sughrue in front of him. Frank expects his team to score more goals this season. He'll be looking for good things up front from Coucci and Caravana.

    GNB Voc-Tech Bears


    Coach: Henry Andrade (fifth year)

    2009 record: 16-4-3. Dropped a 3-0 decision to Cardinal Spellman in the Division 1 sectional quarterfinals.

    Top returners: Sr. FB Nick Bolarinho, Sr. MF Alvaro Gomez, Jr. FB Pedro Gomez, Jr. MF Felipe Dias, Jr. MF Jordan Mena, Jr. MF Flavio Carvalho, Jr. FB Kyle Shyndel, Soph. MF Nick Oliveira.

    Key newcomers: Sr. F Brendan Andrade, Sr. F Steven Martins, Jr. F Jonathan DaSilva, Jr. MF Edgar Alves, Jr. FB/G Joshua Cardosa, Jr. MF Cody Leanor, Jr. MF Corey Lopes, Jr. FB Tyler Freitas, Soph. G Luis Carranza, Soph. F Tim Amaral.

    Outlook: Lost some goal scorers to graduation, so they'll have to play good defense in front of new starting netminder Carranza while the offense finds its way. Andrade has some good midfielders to work with and a big junior class that will make its share of contributions as the season progresses. The Bears still have some outstanding players, but they're going to have to play more as a team on both sides of the ball to be successful.

    New Bedford Whalers


    Coach: John Macaroco (10th year)

    2009 record: 17-2-1. Dropped a 1-0 decision to Brockton in the Division 1 sectional semifinals.

    Top returners: Sr. F Tiago Dourado, Sr. MF/F Fernando Baptista, Sr. MF J.B. Macaroco, Sr. FB Josh Chao, Sr. G Eli Reis, Sr. MF Ryan Almeida.

    Key newcomers: Sr. FB Pedro Miranda, Sr. FB Tanner Garcia, Jr. F Ryan Duarte, Soph FB Josh Travassos.

    Outlook: Senior-dominated team is looking to break through and win a sectional title. The team will depend on its defense and midfielders in the early going while it works out some kinks up front. Macaroco will have to work some new players into the lineup, but with the talent pool he has to draw from, it's more reloading than rebuilding.

    Right now, it looks like a runaway for Brookline, that side of the conference is way down. Braintree and Weymouth didn't have a very impressive opening game. Newton has been down for years. Needham lost a lot of players and Framingham graduated 18 players and it showed in their opening game.

    However, the BSH division looks much improved.

    Thanks for thinking of the city league! We're all one big league this year, so the top four teams will have a two round playoff to determine city championship. Very interesting to have Madison, Buke, and Eastie all playing regular season games before the playoffs.

    I'm the last one to hype up the Mayflower League, however it appears Westport had a strong showing against a good D-1 quality opponent in Falmouth. Could be a Westport vs. CS rematch in the south?

    Holliston also with an impressive 3-0 win against Weston. Weston was supposed to be pretty good this season as well.

    Wellesley 7-0 over Dedham, they look like the real deal as predicted.

    Everett over Malden, 5-1. Right now, I may give Cambridge that #4 slot. With Medford beating Somerville, it's shaping up to be a very competitive 3 team race in the GBL.

    Melrose appears to have some talent, but lacks depth. A lot of teams up and coming in the Middlesex, with Reading last season. Wakefield and Burlington supposedly on the rise.

    I strongly disagree wit the idea of putting cambridge #4 because malden and everett are both easy matchups for cambridge, malden lost all of its players and everett lost its best player. Cambridge has a really good chance to beat both everett and malden. Medford and Somerville on the other hand are going to be very hard matchups. I say it ends up being a 3 team race, Cambridge, Somerville and medford. Im really dissapointed on somerville though I thought they were going to be the best this year.

    Watching the Malden Everett game, Malden looked to play through one player. #9 Rincon(Also plays U18 Revs). Great player, just no help. Meanwhile, Everett scored some well deserved goals, going down 1-0 early, kept their composure, and scored some well deserved goals. a nice free kick from some #7 kid, goalie should've had it, none the less a nice shot. and returning senior Lima shows he can play without DeBona. Everett ended up winning 5-1. lacks a little organization, but hopefully pulling it together might make them at least a team that is able to compete... somewhat..

    very very impressive early season result as Madison Park goes to New Bedford and gains 1-1 draw...  what do people think?  results for the Boston City League continue to impress and improve... Madison lost 4-2 at NB in 08, and 2-1 in 09 and this year nil nil, next year could Madison beat NB at their house???

    what do people think -- it instantly vaults Madison Park into top 5 ranking, right?

    CC beat Wellesly 3-0. It was a dominate victory. CC had about 85% of the possession.
