Look out for Burlington in D2 this team could surprise . They won their last 10 games  and have 3 players that can put the puck in the net

Agreed, but unfortunately they match up in the tourny against league opponent Winchester who is also quite capable of a deep D2 run.  Its too bad when seedings end up pitting teams from the same league against each other in the first round like that.

Nah...Woburn done after two games probably.  Opposing coaches will cover, harrass, frusterate and shut down their one player that does all the scoring with their best defensive skating player and bingo - all done...Just wait and see....

You mean just like how AB and AC shut down Woburn in the Showcase giving up 4 and 5 goals to those same girls.  If you actually looked at the stats, Woburn has multiple goal scorers.   See below.  So they are far from a one girl team.

    Kayla Smith (32-25-57)

    Ashley Moran (25-25-50)

    Emily Lissner (17-20-37)

    Cassandra Connolly (1-16-17)

    Erica Lissner (8-7-15)

I whole-heartedly agree.   Woburn is great all around, including goal scoring.

If you check the record they were actually 9-1-0 in their last ten with a 2-1 loss to Wakefield. They started the season 1-5, but some of that was expected as their first three games of the year were against, Woburn, Lexington and Reading.  Losing by a combined 20-6 goals in those three games to D-1 top teams.   There are a very young team that got a lot better over the season.  However, still not sure how deep they go with this being their first time in the post season as far as I can recall.

D2   brackets have changed.         Every team should play exactly 20 games and every one should count and it would end all the confusion

Thanks Pete I stand corrected. I do believe they beat Winchester in their only meeting 6 to3? If they get by Winchester look for good run

MIAA is the issue- all teams report records to them and which games count in advance of the season. This is far from rocket science.  The MIAA falters on so many levels and with the amount of money they are being paid by all the schools involved incompetence should not be one of them.

Sandwich's game with DY was a 1-0 forfeit.  At first it was thought that the game was just being canceled similar to AC v Falmouth or Barnstable v Lexington.  But, league games can't be canceled so that is why it was recorded as a forfeit.  The win put them ahead of Norwood.

It put them ahead of Norwood but probably in a tougher spot . Watch out for Westwood.

I have no clue about Latin.  No excluded games and I do not believe they had an forfeits/canceled game situations.

Give credit to Burlington for pulling out a solid win. Winchester dominated puck possession, and had the puck in the offensive zone most of the game, but could not generate quality chances. Burlington had far fewer chances, but did a great job of converting those chances into goals. Burlington's top line has excellent shooting skils. Good luck to them in the rest of the tournament!

    Re: EMASS Girls Hockey 2012-2013

Walpole won a hard fought game against Medfield last night, needing 60 minutes plus 6 rounds of a shootout to advance.

Refs were bad both ways, and did not know the rules of OT/Shootout.  There was a 15-20 minute delay after playing a 15 minute OT. (BTW, correct OT is 12 minutes)  How hard is to get the refs to know the rules or to have an MIAA representative available when they do not.  Just pathetic.

Huge props to Medfield goalie MB.  She had to face 40-50 shots and stood tall, stopping Walpole's best threat numerous times at point blank range.  She was nothing short of outstanding last night.

Hate that playoff games end with a shootout.  Hated it when Walpole lost last year, still hate it after a Walpole win last night.  A season should not be ended in a shootout.  Give them a 2nd OT, or play OT 4 on 4.  But then the MIAA might have to pay for extra ice.  Boo hoo.

Will Walpole have anything left against Duxbury on Friday?  Going to be a tall task.

    Re: EMASS Girls Hockey 2012-2013

Regarding OT's the problem can also simply be scheduling.  You have a block of time to play the game within, and then the next ice user or game is on the clock.  Being able to play an unlimited series of OT's might be more statisfying at some level, but can play havoc in other ways.

I saw this the hard way in a soccer tournement a few years back.  Although not on the ice, the games were all to be played in one day on a set of fields at a soccer complex.  Our team was up and playing in a game early in the day and the match went into OT.  2OT, 3OT, 4OT, 5OT, and finally was settled in the 6th OT.  By then, most other fields had already almost cleared their next games, but the teams from that mega OT match had not been able to start their next games and the schedule of matches was all messed up for the other 14 teams in the tournement.  I believe the rule was changed to only go a single OT and then penalty kicks after that year.

In this case it is not only the ice time, but all the other things that go on with playing a match, having referees, buses, support people for the venue, and perhaps crowds and teams for following matches and room in the dressing rooms, etc.  The cascade of issues is far larger than just access to the ice.   While it can be frustrating to have a game decided by a shootout, that is also a pretty fair way to do it for two teams that as so closely matched on the night, and that means the teams actually determine who wins, not a coin flip.

come back and finish the next day.  or don't be cheap and make sure you have enough time for at least 2 OTS.  therein lies the problem.  The MIAA is all about lining their own pockets.
BTW, they could have played another 10 minutes of OT in the time they had their heads up their azzes, not knowing how to proceed. make the game about the kids.

Was at the Dux/Walp game - don't have a horse in this one and it was a great game.  Walpole not deep this year but the girls stepped it up and brought their best game.  Walp goalie had very good game and #6 and #7 for Walpole very talented.  Great backcheck by Walpole too.  Both teams had chances.   Dux may have a tough time against Archies.  If their goalie is on and #10 gets loose, will be very interesting!
