MIAA site is more relevant, go to cshool lookup, go to team schedules, use varsity soccer, seeding record is what to look at as several teams do not count certain games. -

I looked up each school and figured out the winning percentage. Not up to date as the last post stated. Not even sure if the remaining games for each team are accurate. -

somerville may be the worst team to ever win the GBL... shocking goalkeeping, questionable defending, a few good individuals but can't even come close to comparing to the 2009 team. maybe a testament to the overall decline of MA high school soccer in terms of the level of play for teams and individuals -

New Bedford is out after an amazing run last year. Young team with a lot of potential. Ups and downs this season which comes with a young team. When was the last time two teams from the Big Three didn't make it to the tourney? -

I'm not sure the GBL can be used as a measuring stick for the state of MA high school soccer. The GBL has been week for at least a decade. And maybe longer but that would be before my time. However, The Bay State League and Catholic Conference look as strong as ever to me. -

Agreed Mike. I would add the DCL and Middlesex league to your list. Mass Soccer is just fine. -

Medford and Somerville tied for the GBL Championship. I agree with ncbb939 Somerville is a weak team, with a few good players. Medford looks like a stronger team, but goes through streaks of hot and cold. When they're cold, typical GBL team, but if you catch them when they're hot, watch out. -

Posted by scrapa-I would contend that the level of play has dropped significantly in both the GBL and Middlesex over the past 4-5 years. Can't speak for the DCL, Bay State or Catholic Conferences, but I do believe that the average level of play has decreased significantly in Mass high school soccer. The best teams in their respective leagues are good but, relatively speaking, don't measure up historically to past teams. Furthermore, there are more and more weak teams in leagues, making it easier for the Winchesters and the Medford/Somervilles to have 14 win seasons but go onto the tournament and get upset by a team from a stronger league, which I would almost guarantee will happen this post season. -

This critique says more about the tournament setup then the level of play in MA high school soccer. Maybe we shouldn't have a format that doesn't take into count strength of schedule. I can only speak for myself but having played in the bay state league in the late 90s and early 2000's and watched it since then, the level of play seems to be right where its always been.
From the D1 South persepctive, I will also say that last years New Bedford team was extremely impressive and one of the better teams I've seen in the last decade. I have no idea what happened to them in the state final. -

Could someone explain to me by what criteria a 1-15-2 (Winthrop - D3N-B) or 2-16-0 (Watertown - D3N-G) team can make the tournament? -

They must play in leagues that are all D1 and D2. All they have to do is finish .500 or better against any D3 opponent. Same thing happened to Norwood and Milton in the BSC. They are D2 but the BSC has 9 D1 teams. Actually had no idea Wellesley was now D1, could give Weymouth an interesting first round game. -

Must have been a card issue. Kind of ironic that the globe prints a glowing article on the team and its coach on the same day. Used to be a respectable program. -

The only time I recall the team being respectable was when Lorenzo from East Boston was coaching that team. I wouldn't have given them any press for winning the BCL. The coach should be replaced.
