Woburn is 7-0 and have given up four goals in that span...don't put anyone ahead of them that can't make that claim.

CM is a great program and has been for a long time. Continued high performance breeds excellence. Before CM came to dominate, Matignon High School was the best Catholic program in the state, and kids from all over would go there for the excellence and tradition (Much like CM today). They won several Division 1 state championships in a row. Perhaps 5 or 6 titles in a short span. Matignon, howver, was a small school, and over their objections, the MIAA reclassified them as a Division 2 school along with many other smaller Catholics. Guess who lobbied for that change? The large Catholic schools lobbied for that. While Matignon and Austin Prep and a few others dominated divsion 2 for many years after that, CM and BC were able to take over as the prime destination for players because Division 1 had a higher profile. Only then was CM able to take a Division 1 title. CM and BC began drawing more and more of the better players. To say that CM doesn't recruit is only partially true. Do you really think that the CM Coach shows up for the first day of tryouts without knowing who will be there? He certainly talks to many 8th graders and other yonger players. He has seen them play. He is not able to guarantee anything but that they have a chance to make the team based on what he has seen. Therefore 20-40 impressionable 7th and 8th graders become convinced that CM wants them. It's hard to compete with a pool like that that will continue to dominate.

All Colleges recruit. Even the top colleges have to recruit in all sports. Hockey is no exception. BU and BC have scores of assistants out looking at kids and making contact with them. They have to fight with the other top schools (Michigan, North Dakota, Denver, etc.) The best players have a few top schools to choose from, but will choose the school that gives the best guarantee of scholarship money and playing time. They may opt for no school at all and go the juniors route. Similarly, Coach Hanson does not sit back and hope that the best players are choosing his program over preps or other schools. He'd be a bad coach if he did that.
