    "Pass Rush"

To much negativity in this forum.  We need to look at the big picture.  1st of all the need for a "pass rush" isn't just a need for OLBs.  A pass rush comes from an entire defence, if the front Dline can stop the run it it makes offenses more predictable. if the back field can cover a second or two longer the front seven have more time to get to the qb.  We don't necessarily need the best OLBs for the best pass rush.  We've addressed some long term needs to keep the Champion bus moving and some short term needs to win it all this year.

Other note;  didn't we go into draft like $3.3 mill under cap and now with Hobbs gone we are close to $5.5mil, and we didn't draft and any big money rookies.  Just enough left to sign these guys and add Jason Taylor to our roster.

I doubt Prior is anymore than competition for the backup on OL.

The pass rush will be improved de facto now that one of the young kids can step in and play, and because they will have improved their DB crew. They may take a hit elsewhere by playing young guys, but it is the only way to find out if they can play.

I am actually excited to see what  Crable et al have to offer.

For a seventh? I don't know. But he is a testament to how hit and miss it is drafting DE's. Moreso converting them.

I look down the road. Maybe a free agent is in the offings in 2011?

I am less worried about the spot next to Thomas as I am about what they do when Thomas leaves.

I mean, as a part timer here TBC had 5.5 sacks one season. Vrabel had a whopping four last season, and two of them came in game one against a hapless KC. I think they can bring the production there up to at least  eight with a platoon. Crable is so fast and strong he has to be able to make a few more than four, IMO. He really looked the part of a very disruptive player last preseason. INTs, PDs, Sacks, FFs. Etc.

The trick is parlaying that into a starter who can be a solid player like Vrabel was. They don't need Shawn Merriman. I would settle for a guy who gets eight sacks and is in position the majority of the time.

    Re: "Pass Rush"

We just saw a draft happy with pass-rushing linebackers, and we saw the Patriots War Room methodically walk through almost all 200 picks like Tom Brady on a 98 yard, 20+ play drive. If one LB in the whole A-rated bunch had caught their fancy the War Room would have reached up and grabbed him.

This says that Crable has finally learned the Patriots' system and will be a terror on passing downs in 2009, or Adalius Thomas will, or maybe Pierre Woods.  In BB's plans the OLB position was closed out from the start.  Every possible position down to the new towel guy was drafted before OLB.  You name it, tackle, guard, long snapper, running play specialist on safety, CB, WR, ILB, and more to come.

why didn't we take zack follett, we need the OLB depth and we don't need 4 DT in the depth chart.

    Re: "Pass Rush"

Look, I pretty much write off anyone who is upset with this draft now, as we really cannot evaluate anything for quite some time.. heck, who knows, maybe someone they could have drafted will become the next Tom Brady, etc, and they lost the chance because they were too busy trading back into next years draft... I dunno... Besides, does anyone think the Pats could have addressed something such as 'The Pass Rush' with any of the players in this draft for next season? Probably not. I'd much rather take advantage of what the draft offers your team at that time because, heck, what is the worst that happens, have too many good young DBs and forced to get rid of a few? I'm sure they'd find interested trade partners, they always seem to...
