I've been a big supporter of Price and he played a good game last night. Love this kid, also love Bishop Sankey but doubt the Pats will go at ihim.

    and @ jjdbrasil

Perryman seems like a great pick on paper but he has a lot of weaknesses. Instincts don't seem to high and can't cover ground very well. my firiend is a huge Miami fan so he is always talking about them and I've seen a lot of games.

Perryman woild be like Hightower, no instincts and not a good cover guy

joepats, thanks man.  I don't get to see a lot of games.  I still think we need an LB if Spikes walks.

Yeah i try and watch as much college as possible and have seen alot of the U this year. Perryman had a great start to the year as a tackling machine but has shown his weaknesses as the year has progressed like I said. I agree with you we need to address the LB spot if Spikes walks but to me, Perryman has the same weaknesses as Hightower. If anything the Pats LB core needs a pass cover LB. 3rd down D is rough for us

I hope to see Spikes back, but if he's not resigned, I'd immediately turn my attention to Stanford's Shayne Skov.  He's everything that BB looks for in an inside backer... big (6-3 245), tough, smart, versatile, instinctive and makes a lot of plays.  He'd be a homerun in Rd 2, IMO.

I'm also very interested in Uconn's Yawin Smallwood... could be 6-3 240 by the combine... athletic, rangy kid that's always around the football.

As far as outside the box... I love the idea of drafting FSU's Telvin Smith (6-3 220) and converting him into that mythical LB/S hybrid... check this kid out if you haven't already.

I've seen some of stanford's games and know that defense is legit but havent looked into many of the guys individually. I'll check this kid out though. I assume he's very good though since that D is good.

Also, I've seen a good amount of Smallwood and like what I have seen. Uconn has a decent track record with LB's in the NFL as well so that helps..

and i have seen A TON of Telvin Smith. kid is a freak athlete imo. the way he plays is very likeable. he or Shazier are very good candidates for the hybrid type role in the NFL

LOVE this kid. use our first rounder on him please. he's is a monster and could be a decent filler for Gronk while he's gone and would be a great complement when Gronk is healthy.

also a great blocker which is a huge plus

also, MB what do you think of Stephen Morris?

I think this kid has a CANNON of an arm and can make almost any throw. but, of course at times he lacks a brain it seems and loses fundementals in the pocket too.

if the PAts traded Mallet in the offseason and needed another QB, I wouldn't mind them using a seventh on Morris.

but, as i have said all along i love Keith Price and would take him in the 6th or 7th over a Morris

    just a hypothetical

    your thoughts MB?

Agree on Morris' arm strength... kid can def sling it and spins a nice deep ball, but as you mention the decision making can be questionable and he hasn't broken 60% comp percentage in (2) seasons as the starter.  The raw tools are their, but...

Wouldn't mind them taking a late round flier on a QB like Price... I also have UNC's Bryn Renner, OSU's Kenny Guiton... though the projected late round QB that I'm highest on is Ball State's Keith Wenning... good size (6-4 222) and arm strength, good touch and accuracy and is effective/efficient in the short/intermediate/screen game... which is a big part of NE's offense.

    PLEASE NO TO MORRIS!!!

I saw him when I was scouting Ebron. Unfortunately, that was his worst game, throwing 4 INTs. He is capable to making bad decisions in clusters. He really looked like a NYJ QB on that game. I cannot erase that from my mind - ergo, I would cringe if the Pats picked him up.

Same reaction I had. I did not know about him until that game.

Looked like he can speed rush. Showed a few moves. Just don't know what he looks like against good OTs. Has 12.5 sacks in the year. That does not seem a lot for a rush specialist.

I was actually watching it to check out Miami's gigantic OT - Henderson. Did not take me too long to say never mind.

Speaking of OTs, James Hurst, NC, 6'6" , 305 broke his leg during the bowl game.  Could be someone NE targets in late rounds.  Put him on IR and have him ready the next year.  Was noticed early as he had a good game against Clowney. Can play OG also.

Great find in Marcus Smith, boys!

Not sure how he coud be rated a Rd 5-6 kid (CBS)... similar size to Jamie Collins, also athletic and versatile, but I like his college tape much better.  Collins seemed lazy/sluggish at times when I watched him last year, but Smith is a twitchy, rabid defender that goes hard all the time... I love that.  His production matches his skillset too, with 18.5 TFL/14.5 S this year... love his spin move and he plays with good leverage and the ability to bend off the edge.

    I'm a fan.

    Re: ***2014 PATRIOTS DRAFT THREAD***

    A few draft thoughts:

    1)   Has anyone had a chance to check out Odell Beckham Jr WR LSU ? Very impressed with him. Best comparison is a better Mike Wallace. He seems to be just as fast as Wallace, has huge soft hands, runs crisp routes, returns Kicks and Punts and most importantly he is averaging more than 20 YPC in the SEC. If I recall correctly, he is at about 50 catches and 1100 yards. Even though the arguement can be made that we are well stocked at WR, it is not often you get a chance to draft a potential no 1 WR who would double up as a great KR/PR. The idea of him lined up across from Dobson would most certainly force teams to play majority of defensive snaps with 2 deep Safeties thus opening up seams for Edelman/Amendola/Gronk. 2 deep Safeties also implies at most a 7 man box which Ridley/Blount/Vereen would feast on. In a game where success is determined by mismatches, Odell Beckham is one of the better ones out there and unlike guys like Mike Evans, Sammy Watkins and Marqise Lee, he will most likely be available when we pick at the end of the 1st round.

    2) I wonder why more is not being said about Trent Murphy DE Stanford. Guy seems to generate more pressure per pass rush opportunity than almost any DE in this draft. He is also a stud against the run. He is up to about 14 sacks and a bunch of TFL this season. IMO if he is there when we pick, then we should run and not walk to hand in the card. Ninkovich is currently first for number of snaps played and Jones is top 10, a great 3rd DE who could reduce the number of snaps played by those 2 will go a long way to making our DL even more effective. I am not convinced Buccanan or Bequette are those guys. Morgan Breslin DE USC and Marcus Smith DE Louisville would be great 4th options for DE. Picture a DE group of Jones, Ninkovich, Murphy and Breslin/Marcus Smith. Im drooling at the thought of it .....

    3) Not really excited about the TE prospects in this draft with the exception of Ebron who will most likely not be available when we pick. ASJ seems to have trouble getting open and I'm troubled by the fact that he is seldom targeted by his QB. Amaro might be a good one but faced with the choice between him and Trent Murphy, I would go with Murphy as I think he is the better overall player. Fiedorowicz is a good player but a bit underwhelming. Beginning to think Lyerla as a late round pick is the best way to go.

I would love the Pats to draft a smaller LB - loved LaVonte David coming out of Nebraska and Ryan Shazier is similar.

I can't imagine with all the sub packages, we couldn't find a home for this type of player.

It seems they may think Jamie Collins is that guy, I'm not sold yet.

Collins has flashed lately, seems things are starting to slow down for him.

In regards to the smaller LB, I sound like a broken record, but check out FSU's "Will" backer Telvin Smith... he's listed at 6-3 218.

Run D is clearly one of the weaknesses of the team and while that will improve with the return of Vince and Tommy, I think NE could us an injection of talent/ability in that department.

Enter UV DT Brent Urban (6-7 300)... kid is a very good stack/shed run defender that plays with good leverage despite his height, but uses his length/arms/hands well to keep his pads clean... make plays on the ball carrier.  Extremely raw as a pass-rusher, but could contribute on running downs early next season.  Prob a Rd 3-4 type kid.

    1.  I agree with you on Beckham, fast, sudden and good after the catch... definite big play ability and also offers potential in the return game... I also really like his teammate Jarvis Landry.

There's a ton of depth at the WR position in this class, so teams can probably find some value at the position in the middle/later rounds.

    2.  We've discussed Murphy a bit in the past, but most (me included) think he'ill be long gone by the time NE is on the clock.  If he's there, I think he's very much in the discussion in Rd 1.

    3.  I'm not a huge ASJ guy either.  He's huge, but might be too big, IMO... good blocker, but I don't see a tone of fire to his game and don't believe he's a difference maker, at this point, in the passing game.  I'd think Arthur or CJ provide better value later on Day 2 or early on Day 3.

Hey guys, not sure anyone mentioned him yet but came across a Div II TE named Joe Don Duncan from Dixie State. Heard he got a senior bowl invite (rare for a DII TE so I checked him out). He is an athletic freak who blocks and is a 1000+yard receiver at TE. I'm very interested to what he can do in the senior bowl against better competition
