    $7500.00 for Taunting?

Are you kidding me ? Brandon Meriweather gets spanked in the wallet for running his mouth ? This is getting quite ridiculous.

What's ridiculous is singling out an incident that is no more "unsportsmanlike" than a thousand other things that happen in the course of any and every NFL game. It's no different than these marginal "roughing the passer" calls that do not really reflect any actual peril for quarterbacks -- or that old standby, the "holding" call that can either be made or not made on virtually every play. Giving officials leeway to call anything they want whenever they want furthers the perception that the league is not only in the business of promoting parity (at the behest of networks that want people watching ALL the games) but is actually taking a hand in creating it. The only way the league will step in and deter officials from deciding the outcomes of games with their whistles is if fans boycott the product as it is currently being presented en masse and -- perhaps sadly -- that just ain't gonna happen.

Well, look at the replay and before Meriweather was off the ground the flag came out.  He might've taunted, but the flag was out long before any noticeable taunting happened.

There were two flags on the play - if you listen to the TV broadcast, they mention a second one. The first one was supposed to be late hit or something but was picked up. The second one was for taunting. Or maybe it was because they didn't feel like they could pick up two flags on the same play.

What constitutes taunting? Is it what is being said? How can that be. There's big time trash talking from the time both teams come out of the tunnel. Is it pointing or waving your arms around like your trying to fly? In that case, wouldn't a so-called sack dance be a penalty? I'm confused. But in any case, it is a stupid penalty that needs to be taken off the books. Or at best, a five yarder. What's next? Penalty if someone talks about your wife or kids and is overheard by an official? "Personal foul, 15yards against the defense. Player was badmouthing the mother of #76 on offense. First and goal!!!

They said there were two flags but no footage of a second flag was shown.  I think it was more likely that the first commentator said wait that flag is already being thrown and Meriweather hasn't gotten up yet.  Then the other guy was like, ah...ah... there were two flags?  Yeah, that's it.  There were two flags.

The whole vagrant display of a surly attitude thing is real old- just not part of the game, simply put.  Hopefully, fines will help extinguish these arrogant flames.

It's not as if it was a spear in the back or a helmet to helmet hit. Those deserve consideration, after the game, because they could lead to injury. Unsportsmanlike conduct was and should be dealt with, during the game, with a penalty.

Good, maybe he won't make an idiotic play like that again. I wish the fine was higher. I'm sure BB "fined" him during practice as well.

The penalty was bad enough, but the fine was just ridiculous! A lot of people around the league are complaining about football being watered down because of all the excessive protection the quarterbacks are getting. Now it's spreading to the rest of the players. The League is starting to overstep its boundaries by contolling the play on the field to an alarming degree.
