Re: 99 and a half yard TD!!!!!

And there's a history.  In the offseason before the 2007 season Welker was a restricted free agent.  Miami make the second-lowest tender offer, $1.35 million for a 1 year only contract, assuming that Welker would have to fold and take it.  One year tenders are awful because players can be injured in that year and get relatively next to nothing for their careers.  New England stepped in with something huge, plus a provision that Welker could cancel the contract after 1 year.  Miami could either have Welker for one year at a seriously high price, or a second round pick.  They didn't think too much of Wes so they took the second rounder.  However, they would not release Welker for a few months, so New England offered an extra seventh rounder if Miami would let go of the player early.  Miami bit.

Now Welker comes back to cheapskate Miami.  Time to rub more salt into the wound.  The Dolphins front office seems to have made a slight miscalculation in 2007.

Just so you know Paul the contract that Wes signed with the Patriots had a codicil in it that said if Wes played more than one game in the regular season in Miami then he would make 20 million for the second game in Miami, that codicil is what forced Miami into trading him to the Patriots and the Patriots sweetened the deal by offering the 7th round pick on top of the second round tender miami had placed on him. Good trade and shrewd move by The Patriots in putting a stadium clause in the contract offer because they knew Miami couldn't match the offer sheet!
