So here are some of my current opinions on a potential 53-man that I would like to see. More a like to see than a guess on what BB will do. It is an obvious totally unfounded list because I have seen NO traning camp practices, the first preseason game, and parts of the 2nd.
> While I believe TT will probably make it, I just would not use a roster spot for him on this particular team, this season. The patriots being victims of their own success through the years just do not have the crazy great depth they used to and the roster spot is too valuable.
Ridley, Vereen, Blount, Boldin, Washington
> For me this is a difficult spot. I do not know what the philospohy is this year with the offense in regards to having a lead back. I know the Pats played Devlin last game and he did fine but they have not gone that route in a while. On top of that they have successfully used and athletic lineman, a TE, and another RB (Boldin for example) at times to do that role on a situational basis. It also bothers me that they would need to keep Washington around stricly because they can not find a kick off returner. Some would say oh he's Vereens backup and might be viewed that way but to my eyes Boldin could back him up jast as well in my view. Boldin on the other hand seems to be in that same Edelman half dog house. A guy who seems to do well but they don't really use. That's the problem with not being able to see what really goes on day in and day out behind the scenes with these guys.
Ballard, Sudfeld, Hooman
> I would PUP Gronk. Ballard seems to be this years Kyle Brady. Sudfeld seems to be the next best pass catching potential after gronk, height, wingspan, etc. Hooman over Fells for no other reason than that has just been the way it has gone. I have seen nothing so far that would indicate a flip flop. Both Hooman and Fells have prior and current experience with McD yet it seems they have always gone to Hooman first despite all the perceived talk of Fells blocking prowess, etc. Hooman has also been the one they go to smetimes to use as a fullback. Have they used Fells in that role? How did each of them do in the 2nd game?
Amendola, Edeleman, Thompkins, Dobson, Boyce, Slater
> Same six as just about everyone else. Does Kamar Aiken still have PS eligibility? I assume they PUP, IR, or try and PS Harrison.
Solder, Mankins, Wendell, Connolly, Vollmer, Cannon, Svitek, (Zusevics/Kline)
> Not sure what the health is of Zusevics. Seems that final spot would come down to those two with hopes of PS the other. This is strictly from reading from everyone else. I have not paid close enough attention to either in the preseason to have an opinion. SOme have mentioned Kline because he can backup Wendell but they could just move Connolly over and and plug in a right guard just as easily. True you would be changing two parts rather than one but I guess it depends on the drop off in play potential.
Wilfork, Kelly, Forston, Someone not on the rsoter currently
>Armstead PUP. Grissom PS. All decisions really revolve around both what they think of Armstead as well as his health and timeline expectations.
Jones, Ninkovich, Francis, Benard, Cunningham, (Buchanon/Bequette)
> This is one of the hardest positions as I don't think any of them are super diffferent, in play quality, from the others, after the starters. After the top 3, nothing but questions. Benard basically has barely played in 2 seasons prior to joining the Pats but he's seems to look decent. Cunningham flashed last year but when he did it was because he was putting something in his body that he should not have and has been in the tub so far this season. However he has gotten on the field in his time with the Pats. Both Buchanon and Bequette are young and have the "length" that BB so obviosly covets and is willing to try and develop. I could see any one of the last three getting cut or even two of the last four if they deemed a player not currently on their roster a better option.
Mayo, Spikes, Hightower, Collins, Fletcher, (Rivera/Beauharnais)
> Rivera or Beauharnais hmmm. Both play special teams. Both good tacklers. Both looked decent to me. Rivera was the option last year but Beaharnis was not around. I personally have a liking for Beauharnis. However Beauharnais would have a potential to make the PS where I do not think Rivera still has PS eligibility. Not sure.
Talib, Dennard, Ras-I, Arrington, Ryan, McCourtey, A. Wilson, Gregory, Harmon, T. Wilson
>Cole and Ebner are the two casualities here. From a far Ebner always seems to be around the ball when he got his chances, more times than not. Just doesn't see the opportunities really. I do not have the same disdain for Cole as many others seem to, just a numbers thing for me. Ras-I and his uncooperative body is the wild card.
Ghost, Mesko, Aiken
> Mesko beats out Allen. Can see them trying to PS Allen. Ghost makes me feel like its an adventure when he goes out to kick lately but I am sure he'll be fine. BB rarely goes for any long kicks outside of preseason it seems.
Based on the things I have read from you guys it would seem the three battles in parenthesis, at this point, would go to... Kline, Buchanon, and Beauharnais.
