i have to incl his work as GM in his overall ranking. talking degrees so its all added in. in same way guys like joe torre become better catchers based on their managerial history years later and so forth. elway basically was the best one-man team in the history of the nfl. we talk about tb having no help but elway had full-bore jabros at Wr.. all undersized and discarded junk.. guys called the 3 amigos for they well have been speaking a different football language out there. plus he had ZERO running game. the best was a classic jabrunner in Sammy winder. he was his own running game, and own full back (just ran guys over).. those gys never got separation but threw it in between 3 guys routinely esp in the clutch. was the ultimate captain comeback! i give him full credit for those 3 o4 Sbs he made prior to going back to back. wasnt a buffalo bills jim kelly stuff. was overwhelming underdogs in all his losses.
just to get there, he had to perform one man miracles, ask cleveland. how many HOf'rs did he play wit on O or D, esp O? willing to bet he had the fewest HOf'rs in the history of the game for a guy getting to multiple SBs.. of all the great Qbs he's the one who would b great in any era or system incl a RUNNING based offense (unlike TB0.. made all the throws, the ultimate size for a qb, the perfect prototype. its elway #1 til tb makes another SB, pm in third regardless of this SB's outcome.
