Good grief. Does anyone look at players' contracts before wanting that player?

Houston is teetering on cap hell like Baltimore was last year and is in now and how Pitt was 2 years ago and remains in now in the AFC.

The Foster and Andre Johnson deals have destroyed them.

so true... people are like 'oh hey he's good lets trade for him" yeah and his 15 mi cap hit... god

    Cap hits: according to rotoworld

    Johnson - 6.5M

    Wilfork - 7.5M

    Bolden - 500K

    Mallet - 750K

    Total - 8.75M

Maybe I am not understanding the cap but doesn't that save $2.25M?

i do not know what you are looking at but www.spotrac.com has this:

    2014 10,000,000 469,583 5,175,000     15,644,583         11,964,166

4th number is cap hit. 5th is dead money. (bigger and bolded) if Hou trades him they take on dead money out the asz and we take 15 M cap hit

8/5/2010: Signed a seven-year, $62.7 million contract. The deal contains $48 million guaranteed, including a $2.8 million signing bonus. Another $10 million is available through incentives based on performance. Johnson is eligible for annual workout bonuses of $1 million throughout the contract's life. The Texans paid Johnson a $5.5 million "signing" bonus during the 2013 offseason. 2014: $6.5 million, 2015: $10.5 million, 2016: $11 million, 2017: Free Agent

    This is what I saw?

    Re: Andre Johnson?

Texans, Andre Johnson will eventually have to consider a pay cut Posted by Mike Florio on September 7, 2013, 12:03 AM EDT Miami Dolphins v Houston TexansGetty Images

We’ve gotten a look at the money-shifting restructuring signed earlier this week by Texans receiver Andre Johnson.  While the more immediate reality is that the deal created $4.125 million in 2013 cap space for the Texans, the deal now sets the stage for a tough decision as soon as 2014.

The conversion of $4.5 million in base salary and a $1 million roster bonus to a signing bonus simply pushes an extra $4.125 million into future years, at a rate of $1.375 million for each of the next three seasons.  It increases Johnson’s cap number in 2014 to $12.1 million and in 2015 to a whopping $16.1 million.

With the salary cap staying fairly flat and the free-agency market currently depressed, the 32-year-old Johnson’s skills likely will at some point intersect with the financial commitment, compelling Johnson to take less in order to stay on the team.

Maybe Johnson will do it in order to stay with the only team for which he’s ever played.  Either way, the bridge will need to be crossed at some point in the next two years.

its all good. the Cap hit is really hard to understand.

i mean Jarius Byrd signed with the Saints for 6yrs/54mil but his cap hit this season is only 3 million. its crazy what the GMs can do to cap #'s

Nope, just about 10 teams out of the 32 NFL teams.  Same amount every year, generally speaking. It just changes who it is.

Maybe somedy you'll get there is a cap, what it means, and how hard it is to field a 53 man roster that wins 12+ games like it's an automatic every year.

Or, maybe you won't because you're dumb.

That means his cap hit is worse as he gets older. Not a good thing.  It's done like that now for one year because they are in a cap hell.

Basically, it means NOs has to win the SB in 2014 to justify such financial irresponsibility. It has nothing to do with "crazy" GM work unless the GM is in fact crazy.

    [/QUOTE]

agreed. i mean obviously they backloaded that deal and Bryd wont see past year.... 4 is my bet.

NO hasnt even got Graham to sign the tag yet, not even getting into long-term talks with him. by 2015 their offense run by Graham and Sproles could both very likely be gone with Sproles already in PHilly.

they would be in deep chit if Jim walks

Wow what? I have no idea what your question is. Please don't tell me you're contemplating why the Revis deal here is vastly superior to the Talib deal in Denver, arguably the worst CB deal in NFL history.

    Please don't tell me. lmao

I'm not contemplating it at all.

I'm interested in your thoughts about Revis joining the Patriots.

Are you smart enough to know where I'm going with this?

Is this why your avoiding it?

Eat it Rusty, I'm going to make you eat it.

    Again.

    Because I own you.
