Lets forget that it can be fixed. I just don't want it to be a given that every long ball is a success.
We have had a horrible secondary for like 8 years now.
Two things are clear.
1. We don't believe in paying up for Safeties and CBs. Infact Belichick thinks that leaguewide CB rates have gone bonkers and believes CBs are way overpaid.
2. We suck at fixing from the draft. We have picked a Safety or CB or both in 1st or 2nd round in each of last 6 years and have nothing to show for it. Look at these draft picks.
2007 Brandon Merriweather Rd 1 - Serviceable - Released after rookie contract
2008 Terrence Wheatley Rd 2 - Bust
2009 Patrick Chung Rd 1 - Serviceable - Will probably be released end of this year
2009 Darius Butler Rd 2 - Bust
2010 Devin McCourty Rd 1 - Borderline Bust
2011 Ras-I-Dowling Rd2 - Unknown but haven't seen anything yet
2012 Tavon Wilson Rd 2 - Unknown but haven't seen anything yet
So we suck at drafting these. We refuse to pay market rates for these. What the hell can we do?
