We can't afford the ridiculous price this guy will cost. Giving a high draft pick for the opportunity to pay him megabucks is what stupid teams do.

    Belichick isn't that stupid.

Re: Are Patriots Laying in the Weeds for Osi?

I still don't see it TP

Peppers was a 3 down DL and has helped anchor a Bears line. Osi is almost exclusively a pass rusher. He's been a liability in the run game so that makes him a 1-2 down player who can and does get taken out of games by good teams.

If he just wanted a trade then BB's been more then willing to trade a 2nd in the past for top end talent (Welker and Dillon) but they also came in for cheap.

From reports the low end deal Osi wants is 4yrs at $40mil and looking for a Johnson deal $72mil with $30mil guarantied. I just can't see that happening. Heck, even AD didn't get that type of deal and they are still wincing at that one.

Why do I have a feeling someone is floating the Pats name out there just to keep the asking price high and drum up some more suitors.

In Response to Re: Are Patriots Laying in the Weeds for Osi? :      Look what Julius Peppers did for the Bears last year. This is a golden opportunity for the Patriots to land that elusive pass-rusher, and set themselves apart as the team to beat in the AFC. Salary cap be damned...the Patriots need to find a way to get this done.

He's not as good as Peppers and doesn't even help stop the run. His own teamate Justin Tuck is a better player than him.

In Response to Re: Are Patriots Laying in the Weeds for Osi? :      No, Osi isn't better than Peppers. But, he's a first rate pass-rusher...which is just what the doctor ordered for the Pats. As for Justin Tuck, no way he's a better player than Osi. He's benefitted for years from Osi's presence. Umenyiora will command constant double-teams on passing plays.

I would rather have a player that isn't below average at a whole aspect of defense in stopping the run. You think BB is going to pay big bucks for a 1 dimensional player. Highly unlikely. If that's all they wanted they should have paid Jenkins like 5 mil per like the Eagles did.

The Patriots need to bring in Osi, and go to a 4-3 defense. With Osi in tow, Mike Wright could line up in the rotation as a DE or DT, along with Eric Moore, Ron Brace goes in as a DT. The Pats can bring in another 4-3 DE candidate. Also, in a 4-3, suddenly the Pats have super depth at LB.      Can you imagine rookie LT Anthony Castonzo trying to keep Osi off ol' Horseface...or Pittsburgh's LT trying to protect Big Ben...and can you envision anymore of those irritating 120 plus pass-rating games from the likes of Mark Sanchez, with Osi breathing down his neck?      The Pats need to get this done.

We all fall in love with top end pass rushers but they haven't worked out for us in the past (Colvin with injury concerns before joining Pats, AD with the big contract) and giving him the money he wants would hamstring us in the future if he gets injured or doesn't perform.

Osi has injury concerns with his hip (a pass rusher with a hip concern?) which means you don't want to invest long term guarantied cash, he's also a liability in the run meaning he's a pass rushing specialist which you don't invest a lot of dollars in. If it was just the pick and his current contract I would be all for it but he wants a big payday for a player that might see 20-40 snaps a game who has injury issues recently. Now I understand those 20-40 snaps will be very productive but when has BB invested that much money into a 40-60% down player?

He's the shinny foreign car that when you see it pass by makes you go Oooo and Awww but what you don't see is as soon as it passes the corner it breaks down, only a specialist knows how to fix it, and it cost you a ton to keep it running. Give me a stock big block any day. Might not be as flashy but doesn't cost nearly as much to maintain, will run under any conditions, and I can work on it in my garage.

Osi already has his ring, as others said, so I doubt he's willing to take a pay cut to get a championship... Just don't see how Pats would give up a huge contract with $$$ guaranteed and a 2nd (maybe even a 1st) to get him.

Re: Are Patriots Laying in the Weeds for Osi?

Osi just seems like he's a disaster waiting to happen.  He wants money plain and simple.

Moss, Dillon, Harrison, etc.- they wanted to win and prove how good they were.

    AD- He wanted money

That's why big money free agents don't work out very often.  I don't think the Pats would get him even if he were a free agent, and I don't see them using a pick just to have the privlege of giving him a 60million dollar contract.  I could be wrong, but my guess is 2 years after he gets his contract we here rumors about him being cut.  That ofcourse is when the Pats will pick him up for a 6th round pick.

Re: Are Patriots Laying in the Weeds for Osi?

Does anyone know exactly where the Pats are within the Cap for this year, next? Is it even possible to land him? I just do not understand us not going after him, he seems to be exactly the player we are seeking. We didn't sign Ocho or Haynesworth to big, risky contracts. This guy fits what we are looking for. Giving up a 2nd round draft pick when we have two first rounders and two second rounders seems like a no-brainer. We all know BB is going to trade one of those 1st-rounders, if not both, away next year to stockpile more picks, so, I dunno, seems stupid to not go after him unless I am missing something entirely with cap room.

What are they going to do stand him up? He's a 4-3 down lineman...the Patriots don't play the 4-3 that much and paying him big bucks for sub packages is smart use of money..you Bill is tight w/ the pockets

Check this site out pretty good stuff on the Patriots.. 60maxpowero.com
