The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette's Ed Bouchette doesn't "think" the Steelers are interested in re-signing free agent NT Casey Hampton.
Hampton, 36 in September, hasn't drawn an ounce of interest in free agency. The Steelers locked up Steve McLendon to a three-year, $7.25 million last month to be Hampton's replacement. The 12-year veteran may have to wait for an injury to find a job, or he could end up calling it a career. May 15 - 9:13 PM

No possible way...we already beat the Seymour thing to death.

Love is grossly overweight and sick...

    Brace...total bust...

Hampton...old and ate himself out of the game. NOTORIOUS for coming into camp in horrible shape and it caught up to him.

     Joe Vellano, DT, Maryland
    Height: 6-1. Weight: 285.
    Projected 40 Time: 5.03.
    Projected Round (2013): 6-FA.

4/24/13: Vellano had a good senior season. He totaled 61 tackles, 14 tackles for a loss and six sacks. Vellano is a very good college player, but a tweener for the NFL. He had flashed at times at the East-West Shrine. Vellano didn't work out at the Combine.

8/25/12: Vellano had 94 tackles with 7.5 tackles for a loss, 2.5 sacks, two forced fumbles and four passes broken up last season. He was an excellent run-defender for Maryland. Vellano had 63 tackles, 10.5 tackles for a loss, five sacks and one forced fumble in 2010.

    1.  Chris Jones, DT, Bowling Green
      Height: 6-2. Weight: 302. Arm: 32.68.
      40 Time: 5.33.
      Projected Round (2012): 4-6.

4/24/13: Jones has shown the ability to rush the passer over the past three years. He had a huge senior season chasing down the quarterback with 12.5 sacks. Jones also had 42 tackles and 19 tackles for a loss with two forced fumbles. He recorded 47 tackles with 14 tackles for a loss, 8.5 sacks and three forced fumbles as a junior. Jones had 39 tackles with 11 tackles for a loss, six sacks and a forced fumble in 2012. He is a sleeper prospect who could be a nice mid-rounder.

4/24/13: Francis had a quality senior season with 43 tackles, nine tackles for a loss, five passes batted and four sacks. He played well at the East-West Shrine. Francis didn't work out at the Combine.

8/25/12: Francis had 31 tackles with three tackles for a loss and two sacks in 2011. He was Maryland's starting nose tackle for the majority of the 2010 season. It's a bad sign when you're already discussing next year's free agency plans three weeks into the season. The Giants have a few big-name players operating on expiring contracts. Hakeem Nicks and Justin Tuck are the main two. However, Nicks and Tuck haven't played well during the Giants' 0-3 start. Joseph is only 24 years old. He's above average against the run and as a pass rusher. Sep 28 - 11:49 AM     was aware of your posting Rusty.........this guy may be tough to get though

First, you can't relpace Big Vince. He's a one of a kind type of player.  Second, what you can do is change the system he plays in. For example play the NT position faster, not stronger, but faster. When you do this you create more tackling opportunities for LB's and DB.

Replce Vince, don't go there, think system change

    Jacksonville's DTs:

    93

    Tyson Alualu DT 26 6-3 295 4 California 92 Brandon Deaderick DT 26 6-4 305 4 Alabama 99 Sen'Derrick Marks DT 26 6-2 294 5 Auburn 97 Roy Miller DT 26 6-2 310 5 Texas

Since Jacksonville is starting to sell off some if it's veteran players, I'm sure BB could swing a deal for one of these for a late round pick.  Obviously Deaderick is familiar with the system and is a back up for the Jags.  Maybe a 6th or 7th round choice to add more depth to the Pats roster.

Miller and Marks start at the DT spot and Alaulu (1st round choice for the Jags 4 years ago) switcheds b/w DE and DT.

Bottom line is that if the Pats want to make a trade for a late round choice for a competent NFL DT, they can do so.  Any time b/w now and the Oct 29 trading deadline would be fine.  But if they don't add another D lineman and these practice squad players don't work out or if someone else gets hurt, the Pats would be in trouble going forward.

Re: BB's replacement of Wilfork options

Now that Vince is officially on the IR, I think out of this list of players... Hampton has me most interested followed by Love to add depth to backup Vellano.  Vellano looks to be the starter moving forward.  He didn't do anything to make us think otherwise with his time Sunday.  Chris Jones will get in less reps, but he also didn't do a bad job with his time on the field.  The depth chart on patriots.com has Jones listed as the only active backup with Kelly and Vellano as the only two starters... so something has to give.

If we stay within the practice squad, I would like to see Forston as he has a year of experience on the practice squad and we might need him for significant reps if a starter goes down.  That said, I wasn't overly impressed with him in camp... so I wouldn't care much if it were AJ instead as he has a bit more size.

    We will have
