Hanging on these boards is all the proof you need, imagine a Bengal's fans sitting in front of his cpu reading the griping here... only Patriot fans think they're entitled to win a ring every year.

Hasn't been nearly as hard for the Steelers and Giants the last 8 years, has it?

How long did it take both teams to win again after their dynasty years? 20, 30 or 40 years?

Fact of tha matter is that this years Patriots team fell short for much the same reasons the 2007 and 2011 teams did. One dimensional on offense and lack of play makers on defense. Two super bowl appearances and an AFC Championship game, not bad for a team that's been trying to build the car while running along side of it....If put into proper perspective it's pretty amazing that they've had sustained success for more than a decade during the salary cap era. We the fans are spoiled, and with good reason. Because the standard for success is measured in Super Bowls. A standard that doesn't have to a burden. One that can be worn with pride.

Disagree; if they won the SB in 2007, they would have been considered (or at least been in the conversation for) the greatest team of all time. The Giants, with that pass rush, just seemed to have an answer that nobody else that yr did. They also weren't the juggernaut at the end of the yr that they were earlier, when they were routinely putting up a mind boggling 50+ points in games. Seattle had a similar rare streak this yr.

    Spoiled?

It's outrageous to say fans watching a GM squander one of the greatest periods of opportunity in NFL history to completely dominate the SB legend by failing repeatedly to replace good defensive players is the fans being spoiled.

It's more like, though they do appreciate a winning team, they are simply frustrated with the huge number personnel blunders committed that have stifled what could have otherwise amounted to so so much more.

    It's actually a damned shame.

you will turn any thread into a defensive bashing thread.....you need to get over it. brady stunk, and the defense stunk in the 2nd half. it wasnt all on the defense like you think.

I certainly never said that game was all on the defense. I have said they couldn't run, catch or get open as well. As far as Brady, he played better than anybody else for most of the game despite ZERO legitimate help until he was thrust into another desperate situation by the overall inept play of the rest of the team. Learn the game.

Sure. If you can't run when you need to or put a major league D on the field during the playoffs you are very likely to not win it all.

A MEDIOCRE team with a great QB is exactly what you describe here.

This all comes from the "BB is a genius" fable. It's desperation to cling to that notion.

Little seems able to penetrate that, especially facts. The guy is a great football coach. But certainly not a legend in team building.

He is spot on dead right .In 12 years we won 11 Divison titles , 7 AFC titles games and 5 Super Bowls...The one year we didnt make a run we were 11-5 .....We could take 20-25 franchises in the NFL and add them up and they still wouldnt have done what BB has done in 12 years in the last 60 years.......people who complain are in for A HUGE CULTURE SHOCK when he leaves with Brady in tow....in my opinion what little save and grace we have is that we have a owner who wants1 to win more then most players . People say the Patriots dont spend is foolishness. We have 5-7 guys that are in the top 2-3 at there respective positions. Like I told the people at work when they ask me who I am going for .I tell them the Patriots and they arent in it so I guess NO ONE .....I ROOT FOR THE PATS OR NO ONE........

brady did not play well, i dont know what game you were watching. he was throwing the ball at receiver's feet, forcing the ball into tight spots that werent there....he is lucky he didnt throw 4 int's with how awful he was that game. lloyd and welker made some great catches in that game to make brady's stats look respectable. yes, wes dropped one easy pass that could have changed the game. he also made 4 or 5 catches that only a select few of receivers can make. also, the pats do have a good team around him, the gronkowski injury definitely hurt, but they still had a good o-line, a young and good running game, [ranked 1st in td's], a receiving core that included welker, lloyd, and hernandez....yes i know hern is a TE, but hes really more of a receiver the way they use him. the defense was also a top 10 defense once talib arrived....the defense was playing very well in the first half while talib was out there. once he was injured, they were forced in to putting marquice freakin cole and arrington in coverage, that was the game right there. so i agree they need more good players in the secondary, but besides that, you cant score 13 f.ucking points on offense and blame the defense, its just ignorant.

LOL, so you use one season to point out how the AFC Least is not a weak division.

Exactly how many teams in the AFC Least finished over .500 this season?

Look at the combined records of the bills, jests and dolphins over the past 15 years and get back to me.

And I love how you think name calling makes you right, you are a clown.

as awful as the jets are, they were in back to back afc title games just a few years ago, so its not like there is no competition in the afc east. when you lose to the pats twice a year, obviously its going to negatively affect your record. the dolphins are also in rebuilding mode with a good young qb, while the bills put all their chips in on fitzpatrick and it hasnt worked out. the jets were a very good team when their focus was on defense, now that they have tried too much to add things to their offense, it just hasnt worked out.

They already have and earned the distiction of being a dynasty after winning 3 in 4 years...They also came close in both loses to the Giants, a dropped pass and the greatest catch in Super Bowl history is all that stands in the way of them having 5 rings. So it's not like the Giants steamrolled them. If you don't think what they've been able to accomplish given the salary cap era is worthy of praise. Then name another team that has had the same level of sustained success over a period that now is 13 or 14 years without once having a losing record, in any era?....One that played in 5 Superbowls and 7 championship games. End of the day, if they had won both they'd be in the conversation with The Bill Walsh/Eddie Debartolo's 49ers..Who would in the quest to win each season during their heydays spend lavishly on free agents every year with little regard to expense

That 49ers team is the gold standard and so too were the Steelers under Knoll, Tom Landry's Cowboys are another. Almost all of the other dynastic team have gone through cycles where they got bad for a period of time while they rebuilt their rosters. Most of them made changes to thier front offices and in some cases the teams were sold to new owners...The current Patriots team reminds me of Elways Broncos of the late nineties. They had success early in his career and then it took a decade for them to finaly surround him with a team worthy of winning a Super Bowl. The Patriots as comprised are still among the elite teams and IMHO are a couple of roster moves from being in the conversation next year as a favorite in the AFC.

Cleary, your pessimistic view of the team is not a position that I share. One could argue that the current scheme is the root of why they've failed to win and that teams with the domination of a good passing attack and a stout defense that can pressure Brady is the kryptonite for the current team. Both which apply depict both the Ravens and the Giants...two teams we've struggled to beat...in recent times...perhaps it is time for Belicheck to rethink how this team is built and retool them with the personall to matchup with the Ravens and Giants.

the pats d made zero red zone stops because the ravens had an excellent gameplan once talib got injured and they attacked the mismatch of the century which was marquice cole on anquan boldin. obviously they were going to have a HUGE advantage in the red zone with that kind of a mismatch...also the pats made it to the ravens 25 six times, they only scored one TD....so whats more unacceptable, the #1 offense in the league scoring 13 points, or the #10 defense allowing three td's and one td when the pats turned the ball over at midfield? you see the difference in the game is that when the ravens defense made a play, their offense took advantage of it with the points, the pats offense didnt do that. they had the ball at midfield and went 7 yards and punted the ball right back to the ravens....that is awful. if you want to disagree with BB for him choosing to punt, fine....but what had the offense shown him to make him trust they could convert those plays????

    NH,

The Pats put up like 40 points on the same Giants defense at the end of the season. In 2007...Coughlin did a great job of studying the game film from the Pats v Ravens film and found that they had found the code for stopping the patriots offense..and that he had the personall to implement a similar game plan. That said the Pat's had they sacked Eli on the 4th down play, before he could sling it down field to complete was was the greatest catch in Super Bowl history the Pats take over on downs and kneel on it. so while I tip my cap to the Giants for both of their wins in 2007 and 2011. Fact of the matter is that the Patriots had the chance to ice both games. Revisionist historians like to paint both losses as a failure by the Patriots when in fact the Giants won both games by a very slim margin and in both cases it took a 4th quarter come back to do so...
