    Bills release SS George Wilson

Would he be a good short term signing for the Pats?

Pro Football Focus graded Wilson as the No. 8 safety in the entire league in 2012, but the new Bills coaching staff obviously didn't regard him as highly. Wilson turns 32 this offseason. He can still cover and fills hard in run support, so he should have a good chance to land on his feet.

Some interesting vets being cut for cap reasons all over the league. I find this move really surprising considering they have a fair amount of cap space already and Wilson is a pretty good player. It suggests to me that they may well go hard for Jets Landrey. Seems like a poor trade off even given the PB for Landrey.

Yes, Pats should be interested especially if his price is less than 2.9M!

Bring him into to camp if the price is right but don't get your hopes too high, the guy has only been healthy for 16 games once (last year) in his 8 year career.

That being said Buffalo was pretty respectable against the pass last year and didn't give up a lot of long passing plays, I'll have to assume he (104 tackles) was a big reason why.

Put him on the list.  More cuts coming around the league.

Looks like he may not last on the market too long. I don't thonk Chung is coming back next year - is Wilson a strong safety? Is he a hitter or a cover guy? They clearly need a physical safety to police the middle of the field.

apparently he is solid in both pass coverage and run support... i honestly don't know very much about him.

You can bet the Pats know all there is to know about this guy since he's in the division.  If the price is right and if the skillset is what they need, they'll move on him.

Although Wilson turns 32 next month, it's not a surprise that he's garnering interest two days after getting released by the Bills. The seven-year veteran remains serviceable in coverage and an asset in the box.

I'd much rather have Wilson than Landry.  Landry does't really care about winning and he can't cover at all past 10 yards.

Plus, after BB drove his price up so high last year, he would be un-signable.

Does Wilson care about winning? Who are those great cover strong safeties?

Personally, I think it's highlarious Landry took a 1 year deal and was overpaid in NY, but stayed healthy.

He now used the Jets.  Gee, another player to use the Jets stupidity for selfish reasons. Priceless.

9 starters to replace in NY this offseason = Screwed for 2013 and beyond

Yes, overpaid.  Because 3 miilion for Landry was an awful deal while 3 million for Greggory was a steal! Bwaha ha ahaha ha ha ha!  It sure is hilarious that he stayed healthy and was a part of the #2 ranked pass D. Good to see you've finally come to terms with Carter and Anderson "used" the patsies in 2011.  What a tool you are.

9 starters? Is that difficult?  After all, Rex replaced 11 starters in 2009.  How'd that turn out?

Steve Gregory outperformed LaRon Landry. End of story.  How many INTs did Landry have? How many big plays? TDs?

Wasn't it Gregory who was Johnny on the Spot on that Buttfumble? Oh, I think it was!

Standing desks and ticket takers unite!  Tears!

yes, Queenie, strong safeties are ranked by their picks, not by tackles (landry 99 to 36) , forced fumbles Landry 4 to 2 , passes defend (8 to 5 Landry) .Greggory is far better because he had 4 picks and Landry had 2.   Landry even had a TD... none for Greggory?

Bwa ha ah ha hahaha hahaha!

    What a tool!

Landry had a TD? Oh, good for him.   Gregory still outperformed Landry, though.  4 INTs is better than 2, not to mention NE allowed fewer points and less rushing yards.  Gee, Landry sure looked strong up in the box against the run, huh? lol

Yes, I judge a Safety by the amount of tackles when the RUn D on that team allows a 150 yards on the ground (average) for half the year and finishes 26th vs the run.  Super!

What a mertric!  Garbage tackles through the 2nd line of defense is what I am looking for!

    Yay!

What? Your using a ranking of yardage?  I thought you were just crying how unfair that was.  But again, you should do a little research.  The Jets DEFENSE did not give up more points than the patsies DEFENSE.  I guess, there goes every argument you've been trying to make.

What was that word?  Oh yeah, BLUDGEONED!

Garbage tackles? Bwa ha hahahahahah!  Are those like those "garbage points" you talk about?  This just in, Queenie, they all count, even the "garbage" interceptions that Greggory had.

Wow! The Jets averaged 110 yards for rushing D for half the year?  That's pretty good.  I didn't know that.  Thanks.

More ignorant patsie fans? I'm shocked.   Landry was very good in 2012 and a steal at 3 mil.  His lack of coverage skills are obvious and pretty common among strong safeties in the NFL.  Though, few hit like Landry.

I was surprised that Landry was able to stay on the field and that he played so well. Not that it is the end all be all, but he was selected for the pro bowl.

Gregory, while I was not a fan of the signing, performed below even my most modest expectations. He is too small, too slow and misreads pass plays. He is the classic tweener for a S. Chung is the better athlete than Gregory, Gregory the smarter player, but both fall whort as a S in the NFL in this passing league.

Landry was better than epected against the pass, and was very good against the run. I think he is a risky signing due to injury concern.

To argue that Gregory had a better year then Landry is simply foolish, but not surprising given the source

i'm not going to argue with you.. you're arguing about a guy who was a jet for one season. a season in which the jets went 8-8, missed the playoffs, and were the laughing stock of the NFL. if that makes you happy then so be it... i'm happy for you and the jets. i hope you get more of the same going forward.

ESPN New York characterizes the Jets' chances of re-signing free agent SS LaRon Landry as "remote." Per a clause in Landry's contract, he cannot be franchise tagged. Although there's disagreement over how dire the Jets' cap situation truly is, there's almost no chance they'd be able to win a bidding war if Landry reaches the open market. Players who can't be franchise tagged reach free agency almost 100 percent of the time.
