Patriots director of player personnel Nick Caserio is optimistic about the chances of Brandon Tate (knee) playing this season.
Tate, who tore his ACL and MCL while playing for North Carolina last October, is eligible to come off the PUP list after the Oct. 18 game against the Titans. He's more likely to help on special teams than as a receiver this season.

*** Tate was an unbelievable return man at UNC, and he has deep play ability.  He could be the man the Patriots need to kickstart the offense for the 2nd half of the season.  At 6'1" and 195, he could be the perfect 3rd reciever Aikens and Galloway have not been.  He has to be hungry, after missing 1/2 of his senior year, due to the knee injury.  He had surgery on Oct. 15, 2008.
