    Brent Grimes

ESPN's AFC East writer James Walker mentions free agent CB Brent Grimes as an option for the Patriots.

Grimes is expected to seek out a one-year, prove-it deal in free agency after tearing his Achilles' in Week 1 last season, and Walker suggests Grimes as a cheap alternative to fellow free agent Aqib Talib. Falcons coach Mike Smith recently said Grimes' rehab is going "outstanding."

    Re: Brent Grimes

I really liked Grimes and he was basically a top 5 cb in 2011.

    Here's the problem though:

He's maybe even more of a concern than Talib. He'll be 30 next season and will be coming off a major injury.

He's also on a prove it deal, which means that he's going to want to start so that he can actually prove he can play.

So that means you either start him ahead of Dennard or you just don't resign Talib. I wouldn't start him over Dennard because that could affect Dennard's development.

If Talib's market isn't too high, I'd rather lock up Talib than take a gamble on Grimes, have it fail, and be stuck with no cb again

I'd rather have Talib because we know he fits the system but not if Talib's price is too high Grimes would be a good replacement. If Talib is within reason I'd much rather him over a cheaper Grimes

But, the "prove it deal" is the point.  If you're looking for one of those like BB did wisely with Bodden in 2009, how is this team not a great place to be to do that?

I'd rather sign Grimes than overpay Talib. In each case, BB has created the leverage by getting Brady to renegotiate and restructure, extending his tenure here, 1 year earlier. Great job by BB.

BB is letting the market come to him.

Bwa hahahahahhahahaha! Queenie cancelled another account! Hilarious! After what you've been through, I can see why.  You've been bludgeoned over and over again by patsie fans and Jets fans alike.  Between the claims that Brady threw 2 4th qtr picks that allowed the Ravens to score- all the way to the claims that less rushing yards means your a  better RB. Ouch! You can't make this stuff up.

Yeah, I "cancelled" it.  You're really bright, Phatty Virgin.

Meanwhile, you get to run amuck with support from other anti-BB fans who pose as Pats fans. Babe, Pezzy, Mt Hurl, etc, always get what they want by dictating to the mods, as the mods actually delete my accounts and leave you to troll.

Isn't that swell for the the real Pats fans here.

Sure, I really said "Brady threw 'two' 4th qtr picks" vs Baltimore.  lol

So weak.  It's not even remotely believable that I said that.

The fact you get to do what you do here is the fault of Babe, Pezzy, Mt Hurl, RKarp, etc.

How about this Queenie, I repost where you not only said that Brady threw two fourth quarter picks, but he gave the ravens a "short filed" to score. I post it, you leave forever (for the 10th time). Deal?

The Boston Globe says the Patriots could "very well" use the transition tag on free agent CB Aqib Talib.

The transition tag carries an $8.9 million price, as opposed to the $10.6 million the franchise tag brings. The Patriots are not expected to use the franchise tag on any of their free agents. The transition tag would allow New England the right of first refusal, but they wouldn't receive any compensation if they let Talib walk.

Love the kid but he plays reckless and has a very slight frame. He plays the game the right way but is too small to last 16 games. Good agressive player I wanted to get 3 years ago though. Now its too risky and we just cant afford injuries to our already thin stable of Db's
