The first time we give him a chance to be the feature back he runs for 120 and a td. Well what do you know? Good Job Maroney Haters! -

I'm sure that if his first time didn't happen to be against the Titans who we beat 59-0 it would be more assuring. Besides, he also ran real hard in the 2007 playoffs. Someone real close to the team (Robert Kraft) was caught on video in his booth for the Chargers game (2007 playoffs) making the following remark: "he's finally running hard". They showed this on the NFL Network. Why did he say that?Maroney did well for sure in the Titans game. If he keeps that up I'll definitely be a believer. -

And people get jazzed over BJGE and ran well once against a woeful Denver "D" last season. In fact, another rusher on the Pats had 100 yards in the same game.
I say take it for what it is. Maroney is a decent back, but not what some people here are looking for. When he has been healthy he has been productive. -

I really hope he keeps it up, but I'm not sold yet. On the same page, BJGE came in for a few snaps and performed at a high level... If these two continue on this pace it would be a great 1-2 punch! -

Yeah I hear that there was cause for concern but my point has always been that maroney is without a doubt the most athletic rb on the roster and we have not given him a chance to do much of anything with his 5-7 carries per game. So why scream for his head? It just didn't make since. -

Maroney, as a runner, is horrible. He has trouble hitting holes and dances to often. In sundays game the slick conditions allowed him the time to dance and wait for pockets to open but Law Firm also had a extremely productive day and Johnson so the conditions might have been the overwhelming factor in his success not some much his ability.
Now on the other hand Maroney is one of the best blocking rb's we've had in a long time. He seems to have this way of picking up blitzes and rarely lets one get by.
So with Maroney you get the extra protection to Brady but (like in craps) you have the potential for a homerun type of play. The downside is his average yrd/carry on normal running downs is questionable at best. I doubt we'll find the best of both worlds for what we pay him so for now I'll gladly give up some of the ground game to give Brady that little bit of extra time to tear the secondarys apart but that doesn't mean I can't get overly frustrated everytime Maroney goes down for a loss -

It's not enough that he's averaged 4.6 ypa so far this year and 4.3 for his career..........it's not enough that he did it against Tenn's top 5 NFL run defense in YPA, apparently it only counts when he has a bad game.........
A premier back he's not, a servicable NFL back he is....... -

Maroney is as athletic a back as you'll find in the league. He wasn't a number one pick for no reason, and #1 picks at running back that bust are long gone by this point in his career. I said it in multiple other posts just as I said it to a Pat's fan mouthing off about Maroney on Sunday right before he reeled of the first big run in the game... Maroney is a load.
Pat's fans won't know what they've got until it's gone. We carry 4 backs and one specialist. Maroney is a #1A, premier running back who was being held back so that he was available at the most important part of the season; the playoffs.
Posters get so focused on fantasy stats that they lose perspective... We don't win a super bowl for having the leagues leading rusher, in fact that wins us nothing. Maroney is our best back... period. -

I know he has had injury issues in the past, but BB doesnt give him a chance to carry the ball alot. Yes he does dance and that is very frustrating to watch, but if you give him the ball at between 20-25 times a game we might see a different outcome. -

Being athletic doesn't make you a good football player. And just because you've run hard in the past doesn't mean it's ok to take it easy on most plays today. Maroney has had some good runs this season but Taylor and Morris (yes, the two less athletic guys) were getting reps ahead of him, which I think shows how the coaches feel about him.
Against the Titans he was prancing and dancing all over the place, they even zoomed in on his feet once and were commenting about how light he ran. But the linemen on both sides were moving so slow in the snow that it worked, giving our boys time to make blocks while the Titans were unable to close in on him. On a fast playing surface he would have been gang tackled at the line of scrimmage on every play. -

I am STILL a Moroney basher. Not because he can't, but because he WONT. He used to run north and south, stiffarm guys, and fight. Now he races to the line, puts his hand on some guys back, and does the jig till someone tackles him. Sunday was better, but I want to see him habitually hitting holes and running it up in there before I say he is better. Too much talent to be running this badly. -

Could it be that he is overthinking due to the lack of touches that BB is allowing him.
It seems like he is always trying to break for a big run with all the hoping around he does. I think that if he was able to get some rhythem (more touches) then we wouldnt see it. I believe that BB should allow him 20-25 touches this next game and see what he does. -

I think he got only 2 or 3 carries against the Broncos and on all of them he ran hard. I think the first one was a 3rd and short, like they were testing him with a play where he had to run hard or the drive would end, and he did it. So the other poster is right, it's not that he can't, but on so many plays, he won't. -

Chris Johnson #1
BJGE # 2
Thats said , Credit whee credit is due ...Maroney came up big .
But lets see him do it against better talent and on a more consistant basis before proclaiming his transformation from "c r a p p-on-a-stick " to Stud status . -

It's funny to see people refer to Maroney as a dancer. You'll also hear so called experts refer to a good runner by saying: "he doesn't just run into the line, he sets up his blockers". The fact is that there are different running styles. Some guys are "3-4 yards and a cloud of dust", while others might be less powerful at the line but have more shiftiness and speed. If you stick with this latter type he may look awful on some runs but if he's good he can break some medium to long runs.
I think Morris and Maroney have these two different styles, respectively, and I'm glad BB has stuck with both. -

One game does not a player. Do you really think her inflated yardage was because of her outstanding skills or because of the lousy footing, and the fact that the titans had to focus more on the passing game vs. running game?
Maroney is a decent runner in space, a so-so blocker, and a dancer between the lines. The Titans game is not going to change this. She is what she is. Her performance in 2007 is not an accurate assessment of her skill set - many of her yards were gained when the Patriots had a large point advantage - and defenses had to worry more about the passing game vs. stopping the run. -

I am firmly in the bashing camp. His rushing average is misleading. A runner who actually gains 4 yards per carry helps sustain the drive every time he touches the ball. Maroney runs 3 times for zero or minus yards, killing 3 drives in the process, then gains 20 yards which is good but is still just one first down. I know this is oversimplified, but I think it is a pretty fair assesment of his running. And the first guy getting all goofy becasue he ran for 120 on Sunday? That was tag football they were playing with Tenn. Do it against a legit run defense Laurence, we would all love to see it. -

WOW, I cant believe somone woudl be dumb enough to create this blog so I had to come in. MullRoney has one good game and now your saying hes an athletic back that just needed a chance? Ahem,(puuuke) gasp, So one good game in the last 4 years and now hes ok huh! LMAO he is not a good back period. And he will go back to being the dancer, UNLESS they keep SEABASS in and he creates holes for Baloney that he can run to and through, only time will tell and I hope for his sake it happens, I loved watching him run in college but its been tough in the NFL. Go Maroney, I hope you continue success and change things for yourself! God knows yo uneed to! -

I will just say that I have not seen Maroney have his best days so far this year. Last week was the exception, but I hope we are not a bunch of Jet fans who take one game and call it a dynasty.
I like Maroney and am willing to bet that as we see the passing game solidify, which it is, and we are playing with a strong lead, which we will, we will see him featured in a running game that eats clock, makes first downs and scores points.
If you look at Randy's stats, he has not smoked it yet the year either.... -

Posted by mbeaulieu07I am one of the few who have always come to LM's defense so this is not a bash on him or you BUT....You do need to keep in mind when using those team stats against a run or pass that if a team is awful against the pass that teams do not bother running against them since they can pass all day long on them. That makes it look like they have a great run defense statistically but no one actually knows for sure. The same is true the other way as well. I believe Indy was tops against the pass the year they won the super bowl because teams ran all over them all year long and didn't bother passing much against them. They of course sorted that for the playoffs and went on their run to a ring. -

I think that by Maroney starting every game it clearly shows what the coaches think about him. They think he is the starter. It looks like basic strategy to me. Rest your best back for the playoff push no reason to risk injury to a guy who missed the season before. Let the guys like Taylor and Morris handle the load while Brady gets more comfortable. Here is a thought:
Maroneys last 4 games that he has received over 12 carries
Carries Yds Tds
16 123 1
19 46 1 (Superbowl)
14 156 1
26 104 1
His "tap dancing" or "Light" running style seems to work just fine when we give him a chance to carry the load! -

Maroney may very well prove to be an above average back that we all thought he could be. I think fan skepticism is somewhat supported by Robert Krafts remarks caught on film in the 2007 playoffs against the Chargers. This article talks about it: http://bleacherreport.com/articles/69179-what-exactly-are-laurence-maroneys-issuesBasically, Kraft was caught on camera (I remember seeing the video) saying "he's finally running hard". So perhaps he isn't as bad as a lot of us make him out to be. In fact, his non running contributions are decent. I'll go out on a limb though and suggest Robert Kraft has inside information as to what the Pats really think lol. He didn't make that remark for no reason at all. Bruschi has also made the same "dancing" comments on ESPNBoston. So you have both Kraft and Bruschi making remarks that indicate some of the fan critics aren't so off base about him. You can argue we are in the dark, you cannot argue they are in the dark. -

Barry Sanders tap danced a little here and there, he got stuffed behind the line often, but he was always a threat to explode so he had to be respected. Maroney will never be Antoine Smith or Corey Dillon, but he has a burst Dillon might have had is his prime, Antoine Smith never had and the ability to catch like Faulk.
He only needs health and carries...
