Can the Patriots run into and through the Playoffs?

With the recent success with the running game and a look at the potential candidates from the AFC we may be able do some serious damage in the playoffs (providing we make it). A quick look at the rankings would suggest it as well. Of the potential teams the rankings look like this...
defense against run               against pass   offense run/pass
    Patriots               15th                                 9th           14th   4th
    Colts                   16th                                 20th         31st   1st
    Chargers              21st                                 13th         30th   5th
    Bengals                3rd                                  15th          6th    21st
    Broncos                22nd                                 2nd          12th   17th
    Steelers                1st                                  17th         19th   6th
    Ravens                  3rd                                  15th         9th   13th

Let me preface this by saying that I don't believe those rankings mean anything. If some stathead with way too much time on his hands could create a chart that showed how each potential playoff team performed against common opponents under similar conditions, taking into account home field and injured personnel . . .   well . . .  then you might have something. Until every team plays every other team both home and away there will be no accurate statistical ranking. In fact, even then it would all still just be Schroedinger's cat, but to the answer the question posed in the thread title, turn it on it's head and you've got all the truth you need.

The Pats certainly will not go anywhere in the playoffs if they are not successful running the ball.

We can run when teams are defending the pass but we have a hard time getting first downs on the ground when we need them late in the game.

That has been our downfall these past few years.

We realy need Steve Neil to get healthy before we can  hope to run the ball consistantly.

Re: Can the Patriots run into and through the Playoffs?

Why not. We have a ton of examples 2007 Giants, 2006 Colts, 2005 Steelers, 2000 Ravens are recent teams that started out in the first round then ended up winning Super Bowls. So it can be done.
