Chung should be praised for making great call

Pat Chung is an excellent young playmaker who is shortly going to be one of
the top safeties in the NFL.  He got the green light from the coaching staff for the direct snap if it's there, because he's smart, has excellent recognition skills and BB and the coaches trust him.  Anyway, 74 sec left in first half and on the film from above it's there: 8 on 6 and 30 yards are for free down the right sideline. Gigantic mistake by the Jets and a 10 or maybe even 14 point swing that would take all of the air out of their tires.   So Chung took his eye off the ball---a bad mistake, but still he got the hard part right.  He made the right call that granted, does incur some risk. Many would not take such a risk, but he is willing to take them and BB is willing to let him.  Gotta give the green light to smart young players like Patrick Chung.

One thing's for sure; he'll never be put in that position or situation again.

That isn't true at all. If you agree he made the right call but didn't execute, who better to have in there than a guy who learned the hard way. Do you think he will make the same mistake twice?

It's now on Chung to man up and burst through that embarrassment, chastisement, etc. and become great. The Patriots need more defensive leadership and I'm hoping he's one of the emergent leaders...

Exactly, Look aty the replay, there was NOT ONE SINGLE Jet who had outside contain. Chung had nothing but daylight. Would have gone for at least 15 yards and changed momemtum drastically. It was a great playcall, just poor execution.

Bobbysu, yeah, it was dumb in retrospect. The execution was dumb, not the play call. It's pretty high percentage that he catches the snap (how many dropped snaps were there in the NFL this season?). Hindsight is 20/20, and that would have been the same if he picked up the first down. If they were up 10-7 at half, we would be gushing about how Chung made a great audible that had a positive impact on the game.

Looking back after a week, after the dust has had a chance to settle I have no problem with that call or Chung. I actually have no gripe with anybody on the team at this point and I think maybe this loss will serve as motivation for better preparation next year.Chung is one of our top guys on defense and a stand up guy for taking the heat for that Call. I'll give the guy some credit for that.

It may have been the right call given the formation, but in the game situation it was beyond stupid. And even without outside contain, Morris completely whiffed on Eric Smith. Chung wasn't going anywhere, even if he handles that ball. In fact, it was Smith barrelling through the formation untouched that caused Chung to look up. In any case, regardless of the execution, it's a horrible call in that situation. Never should have been called by the sideline, and if the sideline really did let Chung make that call, that's even worse. You're getting the ball to open the second half in a one-score game. Gambling field position inside two minutes against an inconsistent offensive opponent is loser strategy.

Nope - if you're going to make that kind of call, you better f**k*ng come through with the play

THAT PLAY COST US THE GAME!

The last TD by Shonn Greene was simply because the Pats were out of the game and the defense was out of gas.

14-3 gave the Jets all the momentum in the second half.  7-3 is still a close ball game.

AND LAST I CHECKED, THE PATS LOST BY SEVEN POINTS!

I love Patrick Chung - he's a playmaker.  But he deserves every ounce of the blame for what might be the dumbest choke since Asante Samuel dropped the game-winning interception in Super Bowl XLII
