Re: Coaching lost this game

Very strange game.
Welker not starting - there is something going on here and I hope it does not involve them moving him.
OL line is going to be in real trouble against better teams - at least early on. Koppen flaming out, Vollmer being hurt, and not getting Waters back is too much for this group to overcome right now. They may need to try to make a trade or come up with a vet somewhere along the way. Regardless, this is going to be a work in progress.
Some missed tackles really cost us.
A couple of bad calls from tentative refs at in-opportune times.
Some bad drops (LLoyd, Gronk, Welker), though Brady missed a few receivers as well.
Failed third down conversions huge. Damnny Woodhead is not a power back.
McDaniels is being way too conservative with this team at this juncture - yes, they lost Hernandez (and if he is out for any length of time it's going to affect what they can do) and with the exception of LLoyd there is not a lot of speed on the outside but there were some flat out bad play calls made on 2nd and especially 3rd downs. It's great to be establishing a running game and clearly Ridley is the guy, but doing so should not come at the expense of overall explosiveness and that is happening right now. It's like they're handcuffing themselves.
Ridley needs better awareness of down and distance and the play calls need to relfect this as well. Pitching to him wide in short distance situations makes no sense - in his worst moments he waits far too long to pick his spots. Getting him moving north to south seems to be key - if he's going to cut back he needs to read and bounce quickly. He has great burst when he makes that move but he's not Barry Sanders. And though he's not huge he has good power and needs to get 3 when it's needed as opposed to trying to break big runs every time.
These kids on defense are very good, though they are going to make mistakes throughout the year that are going to cost us. Nincovitch is solid but they really need another threat to get to the quaterback - not sure if that guy is Jermaine Cunningham.
Corners are still suspect, though lots of positives from a defensive standpoint.
I hate to say this, and hope it isn't true, but there were moments last year when some cracks started showing in TBs game and we're seeing more evidence this year. With that said, not sure I'd take anyone over him and he's hardly the issue.
All in all this one falls on the shoulders of the coaching staff, the offense, and a special teams unit that gave up a hue play. Defense did all it needed to do.
