    Compensatory pick for Talib?

    Just wondering.

If he plays well for the remaining games this season and signs a big deal elsewhere, do we still get a compensatory pick?

If so, Trading a 2013 4th rounder for half a season of Talib, a 2013 7th rounder, and potentially a compensatory (3rd,4th,5th,6th,7th round) pick in 2014 sounds like a sweet deal to me.

Especially if it could become a 2014 3rd.

Is this a possibility, or is this just wishful thinking.

P.S. Talib is the type of guy that, if I were an owner, I'd probably never give him a big contract. So this is contingent on him playing well and pricing himself out of NE

I believe if they lose him to FA, they would get a pick but likely low.

I know that one of the factors of what round you get a compensatory pick is based on playing time with current team, so I am assuming 7 games is not going to get you a very high pick no matter how much a stupid owner pays him.

Also, if he plays well enough to get a big contract from some one and the Patriots let him walk, then next year the defensive backfield is back in the same position it was before they traded for him... Is that good?
