couple of comments while waiting for practice

-Dobson should have been IR'd last year with his foot weeks before the AFCCCG. If he had been he would have been ready for camp at the very beginning.

-Connolly winning an offseason award for offseason training speaks to his performance last year. He was coming off injury and was not able to train in the offseason. his strength suffered and he had a poor year. I think he has shown well so far this year

-Butler is winning more and more "experts" thinking he will make the team out of camp. make a decision on the CB position once Browner returns after 4 games

-most I have spoken with are 50-50 on Bolden. I also go back and forth on him. I have him on the team today

-I originally was thinking 9 OL. now thinking 8 OL

-it seems pretty clear what the Pats intentions are with Gallon.

-I dont see the concern with Kelley or Smith. Both look really big and strong. They have relatively cheap deals in place. I think they are locks.

-I was bullish on Buchanon earlier. After Thursday, not so much

-I dont think he is in jeopardy, but I am going to take a look at the dead money issue with Arrington

-really mixed preseaon so far for both Ryan and Harmon. Surprised on Ryan. Thought he would push for a starters spot. Would it surprise to see PChung starting in Miami?

That's really light. I'd rather they keep two TEs and 5 WRs (plus Slater) than go light there. The thing people always forget is that the 6th WR never plays. The third TE is often inactive as well.

-it seems pretty clear what the Pats intentions are with Gallon.

    Which means what?

-I dont think he is in jeopardy, but I am going to take a look at the dead money issue with Arrington

Cheaper to keep him: $4.9 mil in dead money vs. $3.6 cap hit

In retrospect, I agree about Dobson.  Would have been better for him to be participating in camp from the start.  Not to mention more time for that injury to heal.

What you day about Connolly makes sense.  They could could go with only 8 OL men because of versatility of players like him, Cannon, Vollmer , Kline or Cave.

It looks like a red-shirt year for Gallon?

Don't really care about Bolden.  I think they will be fine with or without him.  Rather see White contribute more.

Butler, I hope he is what he appears to be so far.  Hey, can't have too many decent corner backs now, can we?   Especially if he contributes to special teams.

Ryan and Harmon.  There's still plenty of time for those guys.  We'll see.

Buchanon is still learning.  Hopefully he improves.  Bequette on the other hand....

Hearing about Ryan and Harmon struggling I have to wonder what it is about this team and second year DBs struggling. It seems like their DBs, rookie or not, have a good year and then typically struggle the next year. Blows my mind.

Re: couple of comments while waiting for practice

I think the pats go light on TE. Carry 3 but only activate 2 on most weeks. I think another spot where the Pats can crunch numbers is at safety. We have seen everyone from Ryan, Arrington, Hawkins play some safety and after McCourty, Harmon and Chung/Wilson, there aint much. No need to keep Wilson AND Chung. I think the Pats are gonna light on Safety by carrying 3 true Safeties and having a couple CBs who can play S in a pinch. The 4th safety, who will likely be Kanorris Davis will be strictly a special teamer and doesnt look to get any time in reg. D.

So that right there saves you 2 spots. We are keeping 6 WRs. Slater is not considered part of those WR #'s. He is a specialist. Goes into pro bowl as such.

I saw Ryan struggle thursday but I will wait before I say he regressed as it was everyones 1st game action in months and Ryan started slow last year as well so no worries there yet.

Gallons would likely be I/Rd even if healthy with 3 guys in front of him. Maybe he sticks next year when the Pats are more comfortable releasing Danny. M.Butler def. has a spot on the team IMO and Arrington is probably safe. We keep 6 CBs, 3 safeties plus a s/t guy who can play in emergency.

Revis, Browner, Dennard, Ryan, Arrington, Butler.

J.Green has to go. Butler will have to show something on s/t I imagine.

Gallon wasn't tested as that fast.  He had a 3-cone score of 7.07 at his pro day and was apparently a scratch at the combine.  Maybe he was still injured?  Otherwise he'll be lucky to make the practice squad.

That's an interesting observation on Ryan, yesterday I didn't think he was playing too well...plus he had the horrendous game. Then again last year he was one of the worst corners in camp and looked totally lost, but he had a solid year, so I'm hoping he'll do the same this year.

Basically, they'd free up 2 million this year (with 1.625 million dead) and have 3.25 million dead next year (as opposed to a 4.625 million cap charge if he's on the roster).

His flexibility makes him likely to stay though.  Beyond being a very good slot corner, he can play safety in a pinch, and is a sure tackler.  With Browner out for the first 4 games, he is about as close to a lock to be on the roster out of training camp as you can get; you generally carry 5 corners, so: Revis, Dennard, Arrington, Ryan, Butler.  I don't think anyone else is close to breaking into that group.

thanks for doing the leg work. I havent had a chance yet.

I agree with what you are saying, but I am going to assume that Revis and Browner are going to get majority of the snaps on the outside, and I think I have the inside ranked as Dennerd, Ryan and Arrington, in that order. If Arrington is saving $2m on the cap, if I am BB, everything is on the table

Maybe I read the numbers wrong, but the way it looks to me he comes with a cap hit of 3,625 mill. if on the roster, but 4,875 mill. in dead money if cut this year.

It is next year it creates cap space to cut him.

That was if he was cut before June 1.  Once June 1 rolls around, any player that is cut only counts for their pro-rated bonus amount against that year's cap; the rest of the pro-rated bonus for the life of the contract is accelerated onto the following year's cap.

Yes, but where are you getting a $4.625 cap hit for this year. I got $1 mil less than that (which is all the more reason to keep him).

"Keep in mind it is rkrap."

The name calling is tedious man. I and many others appreciate his training camp updates. I don't agree with all of his analysis, but that's no problem. When you can take someone on intellectually then you don't need to call them names - give it a shot sometimes, you'll feel better about yourself if you can stay out of the name calling mud in here more often. You're becoming increasingly isolated in here and it's not because of your great football know-how but how you relate to others here. No one here gets to decide who is a true Pats fan and who is not. Let that go.

"-Dobson should have been IR'd last year with his foot weeks before the AFCCCG. If he had been he would have been ready for camp at the very beginning."  hindsight now, at the time I wanted to see him back on the field myself. But now it's looking kind of grim, I'm assuming he won't be much of a contributor this season, hoping I am wrong.
