Agreed TB has the intangibles. Both of these guys have intangibles & played great & inspired their teams in the regular season. A better arquement vs Cassell is how well TB did in big games like the SB's that he won. Although in the loss against the Giants he was clearly rattled after getting a season's worth of hits, sacks & rushed throws in that game. MC hasn't had a chance to see what he can do in the playoffs. He may or may not have the rare Montanaesque calm in big game moments as Brady but "not enough of a difference maker"? 11-5 usually gets a team in the playoffs. The guy stepped up & delivered. Also, a few of the team's losses had more to do with the defense then from MC's play.

We may see a switch of draft picks such as NE's #23 & Cassell for SF's #10 & a 3rd round pick. It may happen right before the draft. A trade sooner rather than later would be best if TB's ready to play.

None of you are talking about Tampa Bay which is one good quarterback away from the playoffs. The Patriots aren't going to be greedy with the draft picks, most of their best picks come from the latter part of the rounds. Leave it up to Bill to get the best player available.

We shall see, I hope I'm right. The more the Pats get the better. 1966 why do you think MC is not worthy? Lesser QB's were traded for high picks.
I disagree with Mr. Reeves. Sure, Matt was surrounded by a good coaching staff, good cast of offensive players etc. But, isn't that what all teams are striving for? Would you draft or trade for a great QB and then surround him with horrible coaches, bad supporting cast of OL and WR's ?? Of course not! Your looking for a very good leader (check), a very good time manager(check), a very good on field decision maker (check) and in some instances a very good scrambler and passer (check) PLUS you'd want to surround him a very good supporting cast. A GM who hired say Tom Brady and then surrounded him with lesser talent would be fired! Most teams are trying to build exactly what NE has done.
excellent points, Red.

    1. Matt Cassel, New England, 26; 6-4, 222 pounds; 5.05; 2005; 7th round (230th overall); David Dunn — Will be the top prize of any team seeking a young, up-and-coming quarterback. Will restore the credibility of a franchise. Any team signing him might have to consider trading down out of the top five. It will be very expensive to sign Cassel and may also cost a high draft choice. Once the tag comes on him, all bets are off. His value is a first round pick above 15 along with a second rounder.

This from todays Reiss Pieces who referenced the Nat'l football post. Like I've been saying.

actually, if jabar gaffney didn`t drop a perfectly thrown TD pass from matt, the pats record would have been 12-4.. also matt should have had the pats up at halftime vs. the steelers but again a sure TD was dropped. after that mathew slater fumbled the kickoff, which then became contagious. given a little bit better weather and better hands that day, the pats could have won the game and been the odds on favorite to go-all-the-way!

Think about this for a sec. IF Tom B. had retired in 2007 and last season was the first season with Matt C. as our starting QB and went 11-5, would you not be excited about this upcoming season with Matt at the helm for his 2nd season? I sure as hell would be. Almost on the level of Tom's 2nd season.
