Defense numbers BS

The only number on defense that matters is points given up.
All of this garbage about rushing and passing yards is BS.
Look Tebow had 10 completions two weeks ago but had 316 yds.
You can have a guy with 100+ yds and he can get half of them on one play.
And then they say he had a 5.0 yds per carry (100/20) which is BS.
If he had 50 on one then the other 19 were for 50 yds total or 2.63
If it were all about yds per game 30 other teams should be in the playoffs before Pats and GB.
Then by all accounts the Ravens and SF should be in the SB because they have better defenses. However two others are now out whom have better D's by the yardage method.
It is all about the points you give up.
The Pats rank 15th in Points per game. Not bad and the difference between the Pats and ravens is 6 points. -

Spot on, Jim. Pats rank high in takeaways, and the media never mentions that.
And GB's defense? What a double standard on the part of most major media outlets. GB was never criticized for their team D, or at least, rarely criticized.
But for about 7 weeks, all we've heard is how the Pats won't make it out of round one; how they're not built to last in a playoff predicated on defense. But it's been a QB crazy year all season, and they never factored in that part.
Silly. They try to make a hero out of clay when the real deal is sitting in Gillette on a daily basis.
How's the weather down there? -

All of the stats in the world can't change the fact that Terell Suggs has coitus with donkeys and looks like he has down syndrome. -

I agree. If this team plays D like that for 2 more games, they're coming back to NE with the trophy.
Watching that Denver game was like watching a D led by Vrabel, Bruschi, and Harrison. Fast, strong, and hard hitting. -

This is the soapbox on which all of TV and Radio Talking Head land are standing to make their points the Pats most likely lose to the Ravens. They are making tons of excuses to discount the Pats 14 - 3 record, pounding on their shortcomings while ignoring the same of other teams. -

I agree 100%....BUT
I don't see that having the statistical Defense that we do as a good thing for the long term, nor should it be accepted as such. Eventually the numbers will come back to haunt you. I do dare say though that the defense should be better this postseason compared to the regular season due to getting some fresh players in key spots. But our defense is alot closer to giving up 30points than Baltimore is against any given team.
But that being said...the offensive differential makes up for the defensive differnetial. If we average 6points more on defense...we surely average 14points more on offense than Baltimore...Pats 34-Balt 20...who stops Gronk and Hernandez? And McCourty playing safety ends up with a big INT just before the half to demoralize the Ravens. He should be getting comfy their now. -

This D is finding its mojo for sure, You can see it in the enthusiasim after each good play they make, a higher level of confidence, several weeks ago seemed as though they had a tenitiveness about them. now it seems they know what to do and where to go, no more learning, more reacting. -

Maybe its coincidence, but the defense seems to have found its mojo when McCourty was moved to safety. While he had some major coverage issues at corner this year, he seems to understand where to be from the safety position. He can cover a lot of ground, and 'takes the right angles'. Both he and Chung like to hit people. I have much more confidence with him back there than Ihedigbo.
