    Denver wants Freeney....

Looks like the Pats will end up with Johnthan Abraham, hopefully, let's move these guys along. I want to know if the Pats will go after Emmanuel Sander or draft a WR.

Agree-- lets get Abraham and call it a day-Vollmer and Talib resigned, Welker gone-now its time to get Vince some help then  a deep threat to take the top off and field keep the Safeties honest-then a CB or Safety and a LB that can COVER TEs and Rbs out of the backfield and Pats will be good barring injuries.

Good!  I think the Pats wanted Abraham all along.  Hopefully it works out this way.

Have never felt Sanders was likely - to costly to construct a contract that the Steelers couldn't match, especially considering the draft pick as well. (And Cruz has a 7M deal in hand from the Giants which is way more than the Pats would have offered.)

I am hoping for Abraham, Edelman, and maybe Lloyd. If Edelman came back I could see DA and Edelman on the field at the same time, Edelman in the slot and Amendola split out.

    Re: Denver wants Freeney....

Abraham is a better fit for the Pats. Abraham's ability is mostly power and moves while Freeney's was usually built around speed. As you can see T's are getting faster and Freeney is getting slowing which is why his numbers have started shrinking lately (not because they went to a 34 last year). I think Abraham in a sub rushing role can give you a couple more years of production so much rather have him

    Re: Denver wants Freeney....

    In response to alfred-e-bob-neumier's comment:

Question...if the Broncos broke themselves by signing Welker and the cap hit this year is only 3 million, and they ended up loosing Dumervil because of signing Welker,  how are they going to afford Freeny? Who else on their roster gets cut to free up what it will cost to sign Freeny?

Dumervil was a larger cap hit then the dead money so cutting hit added cap space. Since they signed Welker prior to the cut of Dumervil they already had enough cap space to retain both before Dumervil's roster bonus would have kicked in which would have put them over. The difference in what they saved and Dumervil's dead money should be enough to sign a Freeney. So, essentially that roster bonus ended up forcing their hand in having to replace Dumervil with Freeney. They tried desperately to rework his contract until that huge mess happened. If they didn't cut Dumervil before his roster bonus went into affect they would have been over the cap and would have lost draft picks because of it so signing Welker forced their hand to have to cut Dumervil.

For example, if they needed to pay him the roster bonus his cap hit would have been $10.75mil. Becuase they cut him his dead money hit is only $5mil so the $5.75mil difference is more then enough to give them some extra space to sign draft picks as well as sign Freeney who I would guess is going to come in around $2-3mil.

Dwight Freeney's demands complicate Broncos deal

When it became clear that the marriage between the Denver Broncos and Elvis Dumervil was kaput, Dwight Freeney seemed like a logical replacement.

Free-agent tracker NFL free agency is underway. Follow all of the latest player rumors and signings in our free-agent tracker.  More...

After all, former teammate Peyton Manning didn't waste any time recruiting the outside linebacker after he was released by the Indianapolis Colts last month. When Freeney came to Denver for a visit last week, everything seemed to be in place.

    Not quite.

NFL Network's Michelle Beisner reported Tuesday that theBroncos have indeed made a hard push for Freeney, and still are attempting to get a deal done. But a source with knowledge of the situation tells Beisner that Freeney wants things on his terms.

Freeney is looking for an annual salary of $6 million. He's also in no rush to get a deal done. Beisner was told it wouldn't be surprising if a deal wasn't completed until training camp or after.

Let's be real here: At 33 and coming off a poor season with the Colts, there's no way Freeney will sniff $6 million per year. Remember, Cliff Avril -- widely considered the best young pass rusher on the market (at least until Elvis Dumervil showed up) -- signed a two-year deal with the Seattle Seahawks that averages $6.5 million annually. Freeney would be lucky to get half that.

As for the other noted pass rusher who visited Broncos headquarters last week? Beisner was told John Abraham is pretty well out of the mix in Denver.

Curious to hear thoughts on Harrison as the edge rusher. Is he done? Or did he burn bridges with the Pats with his comments about the Pats?
