Do you REALLY think he'd go to the COLTS?!?!

With these stories breaking and other boards on the topic floating around, I thought it was high time to discuss Charlie Weis' future:

I don't see how he'd get another college head coaching job after his stint at Notre Dame.  His recruiting classes were good, but his results slowly declined.  Nothing he did would give him a shot at an NFL head coaching job either, methinks.

Waluigi (Tony Dungy - http://www.mariomayhem.com/reference/character_bios/waluigi1.jpg) offered this viewpoint on recruiting... um I mean the possibility of Weis going to the Colts:
(Rodney duly notes: "Where's all this 'we' coming from?")

I just don't see how he wouldn't come back to the Patriots to be an offensive coordinator, all things made equal.

He'd be coaching his 'son'/good friend again

He'd also be coaching for another good friend in Belichick:

Pay particular attention to the link where Weis sings Bon Jovi with Belichick and try to tell me that he'd bypass being an offensive coordinator with one or two of his best friends instead of going to the team each or all of them might hate.

I hope not, he might tell Manning to quit calling his own number and hand the ball off.  If the Colts learn how to play balanced football with thier good defense they might manage a playoff win.

Not first, but if NEW ENGLAND does not show him some love and want him on board, he will go somewhere. Up to BB

I tend to agree with this view.  There are only two scenarios that I see preventing him from being back here in New England:
-> A better offer elsewhere (by this, I mean a head coaching position)
-> No offer from New England

If the Pats and some other team both offered him an offensive coordinator position, why wouldn't he pick the Pats?  All things made equal, I don't see how he doesn't come back to where he already has friends and familiarity.

Re: Do you REALLY think he'd go to the COLTS?!?!

weis is at heart at midwestern boy! just found this in extra points area of globe:

Indianapolis. Surprised? I don't see it happening, but it's intriguing. Brian Polian, son of Bill, is Notre Dame's special-teams coach, an ace recruiter and is tight with Weis. Colts brass loves Notre Dame and has high regard for Weis, and you can be sure Bill Polian and Manning would love to keep him from returning to New England. But here are two reasons it probably wouldn't happen. Tom Moore, the offensive coordinator for the Colts throughout Manning's 12-year career, seems likely to return in 2010. And when he's gone, it's likely the Colts would promote from within with assistant head coach/receivers coach Clyde Christensen.

also, weis will be interested in being names an assistant in waiting. or chiel assistant head coach. if bel wants to do that here, perhaps.. and also will want to be the highest paid head coach. he's not going to come bak to be just anotha coordinator. he has done the pats thing already. no upside. also, a smart team like a carolina, may want weis around to help coach up a clausen if they go that route and to take over for a fox with another stumble. heck, y not the texans. good QB and offense they just cant get over that hump. the guy has just too many options. part of his beef with bill was over $ when he was here. been there, done that. will be shocked if he returns. thats y dynasties are tough. everyone recruits your guys and you soon have overduplication. weis will be a threat and make it easier due to familiarity for teams coming to face down the pats!
