Draft 5

    Re: Draft 5

Think Troy Polomalu, but he played at Oregon instead of USC. If he were from a juggernaut school he would have been a mid first rounder. He was my first safety in the draft, and my third DB. He is incredibly mature. Incredibly smart for a DB. Has a nose for the ball. Is the best tackler in the draft. The best pound for pound hitter. Has four full years of experience. Was the emotional and mental leader for a great Ducks defense. He has the best most non-stop motor of any defender in the draft. In short I have loved the kid since day one. But don't believe me. If you haven't seen the ducks watch this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_37qMvwSMwo

Thanks for the clip. I just hope he is smart as you say he is. He'll need it in the NFL. I know Harrison isnt a speed demon, but he made up for it in smarts. Hope Chung can do the same.

Is this the beginning of the end of Vince Wilfolk?

I hope not but its leverage for next year.

Good draft so far and hopefully Connor Barwin will be the iceing on the cake. The Pats have three 3rd round picks so trade on of those and move up from 58 and grab him.

Guys... I very happy....and there is more to come.  I think Chung & Butler may both start in 2009.

Watch BB to trade up to get Barwin...just a hunch...knowing BB..it's wrong  LOL

    Re: Draft 5

The Panthers gave up next years 1st for Everette Brown!

So ZB does this mean they resign Seymour and let Wilfork go?

Pat White to the Dolphins ouch but at least the Pats D will be alot faster this year.

I agree that the Pats need to add another LB and AT seems injury prone IMHO. F*ck the Texans drafted Connor Barwin. My guess is that Jarron Gilbert is the Pats pick at #58.

    Re: Draft 5

I like our picks but I think our biggest need coming in was a pass rusher, either Lawrence Sidbury or Michael Johnson but come on we need one.  We let Barwin go to the Texans, very dissapointed we didn't get him.

    Re: Draft 5

Bummed about Barwin, but STOKED about Chung and especially stoked about Butler.  The secondary with those two and Meriweather is going to be great for years.  I think Butler is our next Asante.

We NEED to get a pass rusher.  Michael Johnson, Cody Brown, Lawrence Sidbury, someone needs to be picked at #58.  I'd take Johnson because of his potential, if he is still available.

Yea I forgot all about Michael Johnson man that would be a nice pick up but I could see him going to the Falcons or Dolphins before us IMHO. Great draft so far lets hope tomorrow is just as good

    Re: Draft 5

I don't know what NE will take at #58. I am hoping it is Paul Kruger, Michael Johnson or Cody Brown. But they need to pick OL as well -- so Jamon Meredith? Beatty? Kropog? Yes. I have been saying it for a while. Sey is more valuable than Fork. Players like Sey are rare indeed. Wilfork is more replaceable.

I'm very high on Kropog and we should be able to get him in the 3rd.  He is good enough to play LT, maybe not this year but next year he can take over LT and Light moves to RT.

Guys, I just got out of work. I was in total darkness until 9:00. Pure misery.

Anyway, still shaking my head about passing on Maualuga. Happy about Brace and Butler. Sad about Barwin, hoping big time for Michael Johnson at 58 but doubt he's there.

I was so excited about Barwin that I'm not so much about the picks we made but don't get me wrong we got good football players that will help this year.

What do you guys think about Cody Brown as OLB?  He is still available and could be there in the third

    Re: Draft 5

Michael Johnson or Jarron Gilbert at #58 would be awesome. Come on NE do it!

Arod s*cks you had to work and I think everyone on the board would have loved to haave Maualuga but NE must not of thought he was smart enough to play ILB for them.

1 away and Johnson is still available, the question is do we get him?  As usual I don't think anyone predicted not having any OLB or DE pass rusher drafted by end of day one BB does the unpredictable

Ok it's official we don't have the so called coveted pass rusher and get a guy that was projected no lower than 4th round.  What is going on here, well guys I'll see you all tomorrow same batchannel.

    Overall day 1 grade?  B-

Vollmer is a very interesting pick.  He's raw, but has a ton of ability.  Hopefully, Scarneccia can take a year and turn him into a dominant tackle.

Other than no pass rusher, good first day.  Need to pick up someone like Michael Johnson or Cody Brown in Round 3.

    Re: Draft 5

Interesting.  If you read past all the hype of the draft, everyone was saying it was weak up top but deep in overall talent, and from the looks of the way the Pats have handled it that they viewed it exactly that way.

I am a little disappointed that we didn't get any sexy picks (Ayers, I really wanted Ayers, White, Barwin, Matthews), but it does seem like this could end up being a very solid draft with a number of rookie contributors.  I like that they got Butler so late, although I did read that he "Hits like a marshmallow."

As always, time will tell.  On to day 2!

    Re: Draft 5

32 reps on the bench press is impressive for a guy his size but he's still a head scratcher to me. I could see a 3rd or a 4th but a late 2nd rounder they could of had someone better than him, but the Pats know alot more about football than I ever will so I'll give up.

Tomorrows Picks I'd like to see.

    Michael Johnson OLB/DE
Rashad Jennings RB or Devin Moore RB or Andre Brown RB
Jarron Gilbert DT/DE or Everette Pedescleaux DT/DE
Ramses Barden WR or Derrick Williams WR
Japser Brinkley ILB or Antonio Appleby ILB or Jason Williams ILB
Cornelius Ingram TE or James Casey TE or Jared Cook TE
Jamon Meredith OL or Jason Watkins OL or TJ Lang or Antoine Caldwell C
    Tony Fiammetta FB

Yea i hear ya on Johnson but I guess his freakish body intrigues me and I just think BB could coach him up to be the next Willie Mac j/k but you get the point.
