He's an interesting option. I'd still rather go younger via draft because Wilfork won't last forever and this group of DT's are very talented and deep but he'd make and interesting option if they decide not to fix it via draft

With it being a good draft for his position they probably just think they can replace him in the draft for cheaper.

True, but given what we have currently on the roster at DT and de, who is or may be available in FA,  the depth of the draft and the cost to acquire FA vs the draft , so you put more emphasis on drafting a pass rushing de, or an interior DT who can rush from inside? 

Opposite jones,  I don't think we have any threat to rush the passer. I like the depth of the draft, but given what we have on the roster,who we can acquire in FA, I might draft a DE like Ansah or Hunt, go get an FA like Jenkins and go with armstead, love, Pryor to play the interior of the line. Maybe given the depth, look at a DT in round 3-4. 

How much better or worse is the line with these combos...which one do you prefer?

I might take the latter because Nink is an above average DE to me and replacing a outside rusher is easier then replacing an interior DT. If Wilfork has 3-4 years left we might not run into another draft this loaded at interior DT before then. That would leave a gapping hole in the middle of the line other teams can exploit. But, pass rushing DE's there's always a handful at minimum every year as well as pass rushing specialist every year via FA. I'd go interior DT given the strength of the draft and try to get value in the 2nd or 3rd for DE or go FA. Heck given Hightowers size and rushing ability in college you could move him to DE and find a coverage LB and might get similar results as what you are looking for

He was a good player for them and I think his departure played a large role in how terrible the defense got between 2010 and 2011.

Viable option. I am pretty happy with the Pats run D(8th, but any variation of the word rush garners my immediate attention. Wilfork is 31 and Jenkins is what 32. Still for the right price could be a Waters-type signing for the D Line. Still could grab some youth in the draft to learn from two of the better DTs. It could also make putting Wilfork anywhere on the line at any point in time an option. Run some interesting stunts if you have both and throw a healthy Jones into the mix.

jenkins doens't fit philly's new scheme this isn't a talent thing, jenkins is still a good pass rushing DT and is exactly what NE needs... the price is the issue.

Pats need a solid interior guy like this to mix with Love and others. If you sign Jenkins then you don't have to worry about such a player being a 'need' pick in rd 1. You can take a chance on a WR or pass-rushing DE/OLB type.

I'd say he'd be a great move. I wanted them to sign him over Haynesworth 2 years ago.

Cannot even wait to see if Armstead will work out in that position? If the Pats want to stock for the future, they should look at the draft, which is deep for the position this year,  and groom a young player, instead of geting a 32 years old guy with a big contract now released by 2 different teams.

 

This draft is deep on the Dline.

Draft a dlineman. Fix the secondary through FA. 

BB has given me little confidence in his ability to draft DBs's.
