Edelman offered 3 year deal, Pats waiting for answer

    Ian Rapoport ‏@RapSheet 8m

#Patriots offered WR Julian Edelman a three-year deal, per source. Would like an answer by the start of free agency. They want to keep him

Doesn't it though? We want to keep him here's the contract take it by FA or we move on to someone else. Btw depending on the someone else I'd be in favor of that but if it's a lesser player like last year for cheaper yeah no thank you.

Was hopping they took a flyer on Andre Roberts if Edelman didn't sign but Redskins seem to have a legal tampering period agreement

Skins might have one with Sanders too, who I thought would be an option if Edelman walks

Sure is.  I think Edelman and Talib stay.  Still not conmfortable with Talibs injury history, would have loved to see V. Davis instead but don't get me wrong, I will take Talib lol!

I read the Edelman deal is...

Reported the offer was 3/14 with 7 guaranteed, with up to 21 with escalators.

Not confirmed though.  Thoughts on this?

Pats make contract offer public?....sounds like a preemtive excuse layed out for Edelmans departure...Why else would the Pats make anything public.....Welker two.....

Where did you read this?  If this is the offer without knowing the details of the escalators it is hard to make a definitive judgement.

In my opinion it seems like a fair deal for both sides. For some context who reported this? It would help to know which side leaked this.

Not sure he would be offered more, this is a solid contract for Edelman.  $7 guranteed might be a tad low for his liking but deal breaker, I wouldn't think so.

Sounds about right for his value but I bet his thinking was, you gave Amendola this and you won't give it to me? Sounding more likely like he's gone

He can look at Welker last year...Welker made such a big deal...and didn't get much different from anyone else.

Edelman ain't Welker. At least on the field...

Roberts just got 4/16 with $8mil guaranteed so I doubt Edelman will take less than that

if JE takes that he took a big hometown discount, which I would love.

Im all for getting him at lower money not high

NFL network just reported Edelman has a very good offer from the Pats, no numbers tossed out though.  Again, I think Edelman stays with the Pats.

That scares me a bit. I'm all for resigning Edelman but for the right price. Pay him as a #2/3 not a #1 and ok we can absorb his contract if he gets injured. If they pay him an Amendola type deal that could go south real quick if both get injured (which is a pretty good chance given both histories)

Like TFB, I read that's it 3 years, 14 million, with incentives/escalators that could take it up to 21 million.

if it's only 6-7mil guaranteed that's not a bad deal and easy to get out from if need be so I'd be pretty ok with that. It's basically a you perform you earn more but if you aren't healthy we have an escape route. I'd be ok with that type of deal

I don't see Edelman going to the Browns or Jets.  Texans would be a great fit for him.

Not sure if I heard it correctly but Ian Rapoport was just on NFL network and was talking about Edelman and the Patriots.  I thought Rapoport said Andrew Hawkins was in Patriots backup plan if Edelman doesn't sign.

Just confirmed, yes, Rapoport mentioned Andrew Hawkins as part as the Pats backup plan.
