So they had a visit scheduled for Monday with Steve Smith, Guess his siging with Balt lead to plan B and bringing Edelman back.  I am sure they would have rather had Smith at outside and amendola inside instead of both amendola and edelman.

Do they dump amendola now or keep him for the year?

Great news! We were going to be in trouble at the wr position and in the punt return game if we didnt get this done.

glad Pats are paying him...   He carried the offense last year along with Blount and neither made squat...    NOw go get Blount back.

Glad he's back. They could use a big size receiver in the red zone area for a jump ball. Maybe they could swing a trade before or after the draft. Like they did with Welker and Moss. But signing Edelman was a good move.. I think they will add one more wide out. Who don't know.

No real surprise here. After Baltimore inked Steve Smith and the Browns signed Hawkins away from Cincinnati, Edelman's options were minimal: http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2014/03/15/edelman-returns-to-the-pats/

Still, good to see this get done. Now, resign Blount, and get busy on lineman.

[/QUOTE] Unless they can trade Amendola there is no reason to dump him as monetarilly just cutting him would be a bad idea as most of his money would wind up counting against the cap.

They need to take the pressure to perform well in the clutch off of just Edleman and Gronk when he gets back...the passing game needs to frighten the opposition...only having one reliable pass catcher doesn't frighten anyone....a vet who can catch will open up the Off. and help TB be a better QB!

    Just read this on twitter

    Ian Rapoport @RapSheet 1h

Even though the #Patriots agreed to terms with Julian Edelman today, expect them to seek out one more free agent WR on the market.

EXCELLENT...that means they also don't think Dobson can be counted on this year...his foot injury is a serious one and cannot be rushed like the Jets did with Holmes last year and we see how that turned out....this is very good news if it's so...TB will have some good toys again
