ESPN radio "darry and mel" tell listeners wrong FG rule

Mel kiper Jr. and sidekick darry responding to caller from  Vermont who asked why so much more attention was given to botched ending to GB game compared to the ravens "missed fg" that won their game.

kiper goes... "All you need for FG to be good is any part of the ball to pass over the upright ... Looking at one replay you could see it was good"

darry then concurs and repeats how obvious it was.  meanwhile , the caller was not given an opportunity to say anything to correct them.

Not sure where to go with that one... Just stupidity ? NE hating?  Conspiracy to suppress the truth?

well now I'm confused, I thought that was correct. What is the rule do you know.

Mel is a baltimore fan from his childhood.

The entire ball has to cross inside of the goal post.

negame... The rule is that the entire ball must pass within the outside of the post.  BIG difference .

check out thread  "tech/ photo shop wizards..." where we attempt to scientifically determine if the FG was good .  It wasn't ...

The worst part about the whole filed goal call was not that it was the right call, it's that the biggest whiners in sports are still crying about it on a daily basis and will for the next 200 weeks.  Get over it.  Your horrible defence let Joe Flacco throw 400 yards against you and give up yet another game winning drive.  If you weren't crying about the FG, it would be that McCourty hardly tackled the WR before the ball got there and they shouldn't have called that or that everyone on the pats DL was being held and they didn't call it.  STOP THE WHINING!

got it phatrex....  Sorry you can't handle it.  You have a more interesting point other than stating the obvious that the defense was bad?  Criticizing other posters is a lot easier than writing something original .

There is nothing original to state. On one side, you have fans of 31 teams that saw the kick, realized that it was not only good, but unreviewable and crying about the outcome was pointless regardless.  On the other side you have 90% of the Patriots fans who want to blame the loss on referees standing directly below to upright who made a visual judgment call regarding if the kick was good or not (it was) and then continue to cry about it for the foreseeable future.

How about this for "original"?  If the NFL wants to have some insane rule about the uprights extending to 'infinity' they should actually have to construct them to infinity.  This is the only possible way to get Patriot fans to stop their incessant crying.

of course you can't change the call but what's original is calling out a nationally known pundit LYING TO A NATIONAL AUDIENCE .

if ignorant people want to believe these lies it is unfortunate .  intelligent people seek the TRUTH.

The national media has everyone convinced  GB was jobbed out of a victory.  You would think a sliced wobbly FG traveling over the upright to win a game might get similar attention.    as if NY would shut up if it happened there....

    Somebody needs his bottle, huh?

The funniest part is hearing you whine about other people whining.  You'll have plenty to whine about soon.  Niners by a lot.
