    Favorite Football Movie

    The Replacements (2000)
Keanu Reeves QB's a team of replacement players until some of the regulars cross the picket line. There's some good comedy, good football action, good soundtrack and bad girls. My favorite line, "Pain heals. Chicks dig scars. Glory... lasts forever."

    Honorable mention

    Brian's Song (1971)
    The Longest Yard (1974)
    Remember the Titans (2000)
    We Are Marshall (2006)
    Invincible (2006)
    Semi Tough (1977)

Maybe Aaron Hernandez can star in another Longest Yard remake.

I really liked the original.  One of my favorites.

    North Dallas Forty.

Forgot all about Heaven Can Wait.  Good also.

    2. Remember the Titans - Deep, emotional rollercoaster.

    3. Rudy - Just a classic underdog story

    4. The Waterboy - So stupid it's good.

    5. Friday Night Lights - See "Remember the Titans"

    Yeah, AH is perfect!

Heaven Can Wait was better than good. Has to be the only football movie that was nominated for best picture and best actor (and whatever else that I forget).

Heaven Can Wait is a classic. Rudy is a keeper for sure. No one has mentioned Varsity Blues but I always thought that was underrated.

But for me it's Friday Night Lights because failure and championship grit has never been reckoned with quite as emotionally for me. Oh, and the glory of youth and how being excellent even if it breaks your heart sometimes when you lose changes your whole life.

And not to mention that it becomes the precursor to one of the great TV dramas of all time.

You need to work on your comedy.   If you missed the timing element, don't bother hoping for the best and thinking you're onto something. You're not.  Lame. Also, Kevin Smith is just not that good.   lol

They made Friday Night Lights into a movie? Didn't know that.

Varsity Blues is another one of those that had potential, but never delivered.

Friday Night Lights movie was first then the tv show came after.

If you have not seen the movie, do it!  Do it now!

Varsity Blues was a good flick.  I love that blond chick that was in it.  But the Waterboy is the best.

Yeah, it's a great movie. Definitely check Friday Night Lights out. Probably would be ranked higher on my list but nostalgia trumps all.

Yup - it's fantastic. It's different than the TV show and doesn't require you have seen the TV show or not.

There are some cool carryovers between the movie and the TV show, a couple recurring actors (notably the coach's wife), but perhaps the best carryover is the sublime original music from Explosions in the Sky which was so important to the TV series and is also well used in the movie....

    Re: Favorite Football Movie

Though I should say I made the mistake for a while of thinking that the amazing instrumental song at the end of the movie was Explosions in the Sky when in fact it is Daniel Lanois...it's one of the finest song placements and best fit between song and mood of a movie you will ever ever see.

    Here's a Youtube with it: http://youtu.be/oVVJC_TDweA

It's on the soundtrack. Damn even if you haven't seen the movie you can feel the power of that track.

(the video is just nature scenes so no movie spoilers)
