For those who believe the Pats have not drafted well

The draft can be something of a crap shoot and you must also consider that the Pats have drafted over the past 10 years with a championship team and could afford to gamble a bit. Here are folks who were drafted and are still contributing from the past few years. I think that BB and staff has done a good job. Albiet 2006 and 2007 have been weak but check out 2008, 2009, 2010 and lets keep in  mind 2011 with 7 picks in the 1st 4 rounds - talk about reloading a championship team!!!!!

Check some of the low round picks. Below, I list sone notable who have gotten away or traded. Your comments please.

Good post. Alot of people don't seem to remember back in '06 and '07 that it was not secret that, even before those drafts, the team didn't have alot of open roster spots. They pretty much knew that alot of their draft picks weren't going to make the team, because they would have had to cut their veterans to make room.

After '07, and really '08 BB started the youth movement. Maybe '08 wasn't their most impressive draft, but '09 and '10 aren't looking bad at all....

Re: For those who believe the Pats have not drafted well

Fans have a tendency (really?!) to go negative when the expectation of additional SB trophies don't come as fast as they believe they should.  I've said this before, one of the worst things the team did was the 2007 season in which it went to the SB undefeated.. and failed to complete the task.  So many fans have placed the bar at that level, they are blind to the changes the team has undergone.  If I recall correctly, only 4 players remain from the 2004 SB team?

heh heh, I've been saying that for the last couple of years and gotten blasted for being a know nothing, kool-aid drinking, pink hatted, bandwagoner fan and idiot. It is nice to see others have the same point of view.

Oh and just to add fuel to the fire I read an article that said the Colts don't have anyone left from from one of either the 2006 or 2007 draft. Probably a reflection of the talent level of those drafts. Also probably why BB was trying to not draft players then and instead going for more future draft picks.

'09s draft is particularly good when you consider about 33% of those draft are out of football or have been waived.  The Pats brought back two or three themselves which seems like a lot but when you have 12 picks it's not as bad as other teams.

Does anyone have league wide data on how many teams draft picks are still on their teams?  I doubt the Pats draft picks any worse than the rest of the league's.

I blame that on Kraft being cheap, the game passing BB by, not having Weiss and Crennel any more, and Giselle/Brady's haircut.

And often overlooked are the players acquired via the trading of draft picks, namely Moss for a 2007 4th round pick and Welker for a 2007 2nd & 7th round pick.

Nice thread! Tired of hearing how the Pats CAN"T draft on this board. Struck gold this year!!

Dustcover....correct!! Those trades are as if we drafted those players. Even if we missed them the first time around.

looks like trolls are too scared to challenge this topic.
We have had some really good drafts. Leave it to BB to continue having winning season after winning season even after a major roster overhaul. Only 4 players from the 04 SB are on this team, that is a major overhaul yet this team continues to win game after game, week after week.

Twenty four players on the current roster are in their first or second year. Not bad for a guy who can't draft.

Re: For those who believe the Pats have not drafted well

themightypatriots - you and so many like you seem to have no idea why the Pats
don't pay out big contracts like the Redskins, Jets, and Raiders have done.  If you pay out $50 million for your 4 or 5 best players and the cap is $100 mil, then you have to spread out $50 mil for about 50 other players, and also this year has no cap, so teams like the Jets have thrown the $s around, so if the league brings back the Cap, then the teams way over the cap will be stuck for years, so Mankins didn't get his doe.

BB was know in SB years for having the best overall depth in Football.  He didn't pay the huge salaries to the few, and spread it out among the very good players, hence 3 SBs and few allstars in the allstar game and fewer All Pros, but give me the SBs.

Re: For those who believe the Pats have not drafted well

belichick is a genius, he knew his core of veterans from the superbowl years would eventually need to be replaced, he has been stockpiling picks in the draft and building a team for the future. do you guys see what other teams look like when they "rebuild" we are in the playoffs during our rebuilding years and that speaks volumes of the job belichick has done the last few years. but im sure all of you people who question bb draft picks and call them busts would much rather have a rebuilding team like st louis, tampa, detroit, buffalo etc and sit at home just like they do during the playoffs right!! go pats!!!
