Interesting. At least they're talking to guys like Freeney and Abraham. Seems he would be more of a passing down specialist than Abraham, which could be a luxury purchase depending on DF's asking price. Kicking tires, I like that they're being active in FA.

Maybe they overlapped their visits to gauge interest in being a Patriot, I'd rather have Abraham, bigger, stronger, more durable...
Plus he could teach Jones who has a similar build.

I would really like them to wrap up talib i think it would give clearity to what they would have left to spend on a 2nd corner, rush DE/LB, another wr and a rotational safety.

I like it because we probaby can afford both. Both are older and likely to be hurt so for 1mill/yr each, I would take both. Freeneys spin move aint what it once was, but Abe had 10 sacks in limited duty last year and Freeney is still a pressure guy just not getting many sacks lately. The reason Freeney would stil be effective here is because our defense sees a lot of passed due to our run D and our bad pass D and BB likes guy that can get pressure and he doesnt really care if they are actually sacking the QB. HE would be a good guy to just get the QB off his spot and make him step up. I hope they sign both and CJ can learn from them

Freeney is still only 33. thats hard to believe, feels like he's been around forever.

Glad these guys are here though! It's Defense and that's what this team needs more than ever.

I agree Artie. It does seem like he has been around forever. Forever is a lot of mileage for a 33 yr old. Hehe. I like the player, but not his injury history. -

More durable and bigger? Maybe, maybe not.Freeney has played 163 games in 11 years (14.8 games/year), Abraham 175 in 13 (13.5 g/yr).
Freeney is 6'1 268, Abraham 6'4 256. Not sure who's stronger.
Freeney will be 33, Abraham 35, by the way.

abraham has always been a guy with injuries here and there going back to his days at the jets, and including last year for sure. they both have a ton of mileage and have lost some explosion. BUT, with limited snaps either of those guys should be able to have an impact on our pass rush. it could also have a good trickle down affect by limiting Nink's reps a bit. he made some really good plays last year but there were also a lot of plays where he could not generate any pressure. i'd rather see him in a rotation on passing dwns.

Pats should be looking to get younger, not older. At most I'd only be looking at one of these two guys and let them help develop a draft pick, Jones and Armstead. Still think we need a cover LB and some work in the defensive backfield!

The fewer downs you are on the field the fewer sacks you are going to get! -

Actually, they're very young right now. Among the youngest defenses in the league. I believe Nink and VW were the only starters older than 27. -

Abraham has missed 2 games in his last 6 seasons. Freeney has missed 12. Anyway freeney has been solely a pass rush specialist as 56 tackles in last 3 seasons represents! AB doubles that with 110. He also has 10 more sacks then freeney in same amount of games played in last 3 seasons.I would much rather have Big John Stud(some of you might know that reference) -

They'll get the youth in the draft. -

They had the fifth youngest defense in the NFL last year, by average age. Two starters over 27. How much youth do they need? -

A bit of youth never hurts, but this defense needs some veteran leadership with talent. Abraham, Wilson, and Freeney all provide that. Not necessarily the players they were, but still very talented and capable players who will add a lot on the field and in the locker room.

The more I think about it the more I think Wilson would be the coverage LB. Think what they wanted to do to Tank Williams -
