Gasper: , blame Brady all you want. But the formula for winning championships now is not the one the Patriots used earlier in the millennium.

Nothing personal, but I want to see this team win a SB again, not waste chance after chance after chance due to Brady wanting to easily throw to a jackrabbit slot WR for 4 yards and hope that 1st read somehow works all game long to a SB win.

If your greatest GM in the history of the world could cobble together a running game that met the league average or a defense that could do the same then we might just win a SB meathead.

the defense ranked in the top 10 in ppg allowed and the running game scored the most td's out of any team in the league, thats better than average.

when a team that relies on winning the turnover battle to win games during the regular season, goes -3 in the turnover category, they are most likely going to lose. the defense certainly could have forced a turnover or two, but for the most part they were giving the offense the ball back in decent to very good field position. there was one drive where the pats started on their own 45, only went 7 yards, and then punted.....talk about pathetic.

Just spare the world the mindnumbing homer spin.

What the hell does scoring the most running TDs have to do with anything when you can't even meet the league average per carry? And they were 1.2 ppg away from being 16th on D with scoring, while also being 29th in passing yards.

Funny. Last year the secondary was in a shambles and Brady was subpar in the SB, so you're wrong.

It's an offensive league.  QB league.  If we need to change out our QB, then speak up.

    This is the thing.

When the Pats won championships people will talk about how Brady led them to three rings. When they lose, it's just, well Brady doesn't have the tools to win.

Brady wasn't the reason why the Patriots won in the early 2000's, and he's not the reason why they haven't won as of late. He's part of the reason in both cases.

When was the last time a team won the Super Bowl without a clutch play from its defense?

    2011: Blackburn's 4th quarter INT

    2010: Clay Matthews Forced Fumble

    2009: Tracy Porter INT

    2008: James Harrison INT

    2007: G-Men pressure.

Patriots win that 2007 game if Asante catches that INT. Playoff losses aren't solely Brady's fault, just like the wins weren't soley because of him.

Let's just have DA Pats here give us the fn logic we clearly need.

This team will NOT win the Super Bowl unless we revert to the Pats of Dillon,Smith and play making defense. The D has already shown that it is more than up to the task early. Stevan Ridley is as good or better(explosive) than both Dillon and Smith during our glory ( We knew we'd win) years. With an O line in flux( for now), Brady is best served under center (with the OPTION TO AUDIBLE) than spread with barely any protection. Teams have seen this for a DECADE and OUR receivers aren't made to break tackles on our BUBBLE SCREENS with the bigger and faster corner. If we are to remain ths fast break O , we need more Torrey Smith than Wes Welker(Speed and Size). That is not who we are anymore. More Ridley, more play action.... Watch reruns of the 2001 SB. A lot of the plays that the play-making D made would be called for fouls now.

Don't say that. The OLine has been very good at protecting TB. The proof is in all the passing stats.

In the Ravens game, the Pats on both sides of the ball were outmatched.  There's no way around it.  Offense couldn't do much and the defense couldn't stop much.  The better team won.  The Pats were not the better team that day.

    ^This

It is no more complicated than that.  In the AFC Championship Game it was abundantly clear that the Ravens were simply outplaying the Pats in just about every phase of the game.

This was Baltimore's year, in my judgement.  The team had several things come together at just the right time and simply got hot.  Both the offense and defense made plays when they needed to.

Do the Pats have flaws?  Of course; no team in the FA era does not in one form or another.

I would agree that NE's line has been absolutely one of the best over the years.  Perfect? no.  But they have been nearly as good as anyone, particularly at pass blocking.
