Going Rate for Marques Colston vs. Wes Welker?

Anyone know what Marques Colston and Wew Welker will command in free agency?

If they're both going to be the same cost, why not go for Colston vs. trying to retain Welker?

Although Edelman can't fill Welker's shoes in the slot, he might be able to hold his own...and if we get Colston - we get a deep threat and a physical, tall WR.

No, Edelman can't hold his own in the slot. Keep Welker and add another receiver who can stretch the defense then you have the short stuff, mid stuff and long stuff.

That is in interesting thought.  If they are only going to spend money on one reciever, maybe that is a road they might take.

Listen....Welker has had multiple great seasons with the Pats and deserves to be compensated .......regardless of the drop he should not be judged based on that one play.

Whatever the franchise tag is pay Welker and go get two vertical big fast WRs

I'd take Colston and V Jack.

The only other WR I'd want under 6'4 would be Reggie Wayne

Yeah Colston and V-Jax..great, but why stop there? Since we are speaking in strictly unattainable's lets get Colston,V-Jax,Wayne,Moss, AND Desean Jackson.

We will have all kinds of "Deep Threats" and will be able to effectively throw the ball, unlike this year.

Yes, he is no Welker. But, you already have Gronk and Hernandez as viable targets. We are missing a tall, physical WR who can stretch the field. That would be someone like Colston. So, are you telling me opposing defenses wouldn't focus on doubling guys like Gronk and Colston, and leaving Hernandez and Edelman to get open?

    LOL....we can dream.

But seriously, pick up Colston, get some help at DE, OLB, CB, and S. Not too much to ask for.

and while we are on this theme of unattainables...how about...

    Mario Williams,
    Cliff Avril
    and Brandon Carr..

and trade a 3rd round pick to cowboys for demarcus ware or to Vikings for Jared Allen

then we will have an unstoppable offense and a stifling defense..

    :-)

Welker will be tagged.  Then Welker will be offered a rich contract by the Krafts.  The guy is still in great health and leads the NFL in catches, again.

If Colston really is another Welker, sign him too if he's affordable and drop exOchoCinco and/or Branch.

I think a 3 year contract (incentive laden) would be in the best interest of the Patriots---

from what little I've seen, they are different. Welker is obviously one of the better slot WRs in the NFL, Colston is a tall, big WR who can lengthen the field; which is something currently missing. Do we need someone to lengthen the field? No, but it sure would help some aspects of the passing game. So, my point was - if they both will cost the same why not go with Colston and have Edelman fill the slot position? You still have Gronk and Hernandez to contend with - so, it's a numbers game.

Maybe we shouldn't be sentimental about players, after all, it's a business about winning superbowls.

    Posted by RustyGriswold[/QUOTE]

Who would help the current roster more, a Welker-type or a Colston type - if you could only have one or the other? Considering that Edelman might do okay in the slot, a Colston-type would help lengthen the field - plus, he's got height and is pretty physical.

The reality is that we need to spend money elsewhere too...can't spend it all on offense.
