Green Bay receiver says Patriots team is "decent"

Donald Driver doesn't think the Patriots are "a great team", but only "decent"

I'm trying to figure out where this guy is coming from. The Packers gave the game away, could not capitalize, and look woefully confused in the final seconds.

Great teams find a way to win, which to his only credit Driver did admit in his post game. It wasn't pretty, but it was a win, and thats what it's all about.

I wish a reporter would have asked if he found it ironic that his team was a favorite to make the Super Bowl while many thought the Patriots would only muster 8 or 9 victorys.

Keep talking DD, and all you haters, this is just more motivation for the team that some people will never get.

Hes right when the patriots dont come to play. He is lucky he didnt witness the hyped up, solid game plan ready Patriots.

He really should shut up though. If the packers had played our last 5 games, they would have won 3 tops.

"Yes, they are beatable. That was a proven fact tonight," said Driver. "The last two weeks they've been blowing people out and we came in here and gave them a battle. If we don't turn the ball over and if they don't get that big kick-off return before halftime; they're down seven points. If we don't give those up, we win. So, the biggest thing is we beat ourselves once again."

I got one for you, Donny boy:

If you don't get 5 blatant gifts from the refs, NE wins this by 14 or more.

The fact that Donald Driver is a player on a preseason Super Bowl contender saying things to the effect of...

"They're decent but not that great...because WE of all teams hung in there..."

...says all I need to know about how pathetic Green Bay is.  When teams use "hanging in there" with you as a barometer for success, either you're really good or they're the Arizona Cardinals.

Those grapes are awfully sour, aren't they Donald?  Go worry about Chicago.  Another "decent" team you couldn't beat on the road.

I would say we only played decent. I think we played decent with the backups in the trenches. I'm wasn't sure at times if we had 3 D lineman to put in the game. A few great plays. Run back/ Brady's audible for the TD / Chung stopping Driver on the 3rd down short of the 1st. HUGE Stopping the Packers from spiking the ball and getting 3 more shots at a TD.

Yes, Driver, they are decent when they have a mostly third and fourth string D Line on the field. Also, if the Pats are just decent what does that make your team since you lost.

Do I care about what another player says?  Heck no!  It is their opinion and, in most cases, a player would not readily admit to the superiority of another team as being unbeatable.  These thoughts are in the realm of fans' minds and no where else.  Just be happy the Pats, in a rebuiding year, are 12 - 2, a record most thought would have been a pipe dream at this stage of the season.

Donald Driver is just one in a long line of many since '01 whether it's pundits, players, ex-players, coaches and even  ex coaches have have regularly sought to diminish those positive aspects of the Patriots, the organization, coaches.....anything.  I for one think it's largely out of jealousy but that's just me..."Decent" he says.......

On the other hand good teams win close games when they are not at their best
or personnel deficient due to injury.  Pats reached down and simply found a way to win against a solid Packer team sans starting QB....
That's football and we'll take the -W- just as any team fan base would....

Re: Green Bay receiver says Patriots team is "decent"

Maybe it's important here to distinguish between "performance" and "team". Driver only saw one performance (unless of course he watched a lot of tape), and it was not the best of the season for the Pats. The team is young, which means it is probably prone to some inconsistency, especially when EVERY opponent is gunning for them and they have just been through a spate of 4 tough games. Last night, I was looking to see if they had indeed emerged, as the season progressed, into a formidible team, and I don't think I saw that. That said, they managed to win, and every week, winning in the NFL is a challenge.

Uh, Rickie, this is NOT a "great" Pats team. Sorry to burst your Bubblelicious bubble. (Cherry or Tutti-Fruitti?)

The Pack have been hit with lots of season ending injuries. No excuse, but the  2nd and often 3rd stringers will never be confused with potential Pro Bowlers. If they win out, they'll finish 10-6. Can you recall last year? The Pats finished 10-6, and had their collective posteriors handed to them in the first 15 minutes by the Ravens (game over). And that was WITH Brady. Now, before you start the usual whine, why is it that Patriot injures OK as excuse, but eh "other guys" isn't?

The Pats were caught sleeping at the kickoff.  Then Merriweather almost removes McCourty for the season with a stupid play...GB up 7 and receiving the ball in teh second half.  I hope these guys are given an earful this week!  They let their team down; almost cost a game.

WAKE UP, Pats!  The play-offs haven't even started.  Swaggering teams- even those who go undefeated -go home LOSERS!

great...not yet but still the best in the nfl at ths point...beatable..sure when three of our main defensive lineman are out and our starting inside run stopper is out... (this does not include ir players just players who have been playing) and we play like shizzle accross the board...

but its funny when players that lose say stuff like that... to bad he will be lucky if his team even makes the playoffs...

Especially Jets fans like you, right Phat Rex?

Feeling good after your gift win yesterday?

Never in a million years would a Pats player mouth off before or after a game, especially after a loss. This is the point. You don't lose a game and then say the other team is "decent".

I think the Pats were lucky yesterday to get the win. They certainly did not kick butt....and even the fans graded the team overall as C+ effort. DD just told it like it was.
Patriots' goal is to wrap up the regular season (win AFC conference, get a playoff bye, and lock up home field).
Let's hope the injured players return for the playoffs.

Driver is another angry and frustrated non-believer and coming close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Bears LB Brian Urlacher not exactly a warm and fuzzy guy prone to giving plaudits to other teams stated that the Pats were the best team in the NFL and that Brady was the best QB in the NFL after the Pats win. Pretty "decent" to be 12-2, best record in the NFL.

You hit it on the head, Enoch. It's all about the ifs. The Pats don't turn the ball over. Green Bay knew that coming into the game; still, the Pack did turn the ball over and make crucial mistakes.

The Pats can be beaten by opponents that win the turnover battle; that has been proven twice this year. Twelve times, however, opponents have lost that battle.

For whatever weaknesses the Patriots have (and most of them are due to injured players), they consistently protect the ball on O and take it away on D, and until teams can match that, they will make excuses after the loss.

The Patriots have a history of seeing after-game sourpuss statements.  Pittsburgh comes to mind, with players claiming that they were the better team on the field even though they lost.  Maybe post-game boasts boost the money the agents can extract from the GM in the next contract.  Maybe it just makes the players feel better.

I had Green Bay as ranked third in the NFL going into this game.  Third should be more than decent.  I guess the absence of Aaron Rodgers didn't hurt them quite that much.

To re visit this if the Patriots were on the receiving end of last nights loss the theme of the post game would have been: we didn't get the job done. When you lose the focus then becomes where you failed, and how to correct things.

To lose, and then give a critique, or in a round about way try to say the other team is overrated, makes one look like a damn fool. It's like screwing something up on the job, and then pointing out all the mistakes everyone else makes. In other words take care of your own business before you talk about someone elses.

Message to DD: You only get to play the game one time, you can't win it in the locker room afterwards.
