    Gronk

If Gronk isnt cleared in the next 9 days, I think it makes sense to PUP him. Expands BB's roster and allows Gronk the needed time to get to 100%

If they put him on the PUP list, they better get another TE in here ASAP!!  There were people saying that BB should just save Gronk for the playoffs... Yikes!!  No TE depth is a very bad thing.

The language is confusing. I believe a player can perform individual drills and be PUP'd. Player cannot practice. I don't believe Gronk has been cleared to practice yet

According to Reiss, from Monday: "Tight end Rob Gronkowski and cornerback Alfonzo Dennard took steps in their progression from offseason surgery, as both participated in 7-on-7 drills for the first time. Gronkowski wore a red non-contact jersey, while Dennard did not."

I don't know anything about the PUP rules either, but he seems to have been cleared for team drills, just not contact.

I don't think it matters I believe once he does any sort  of practice in camp he is not eligible  for PUP.

I disagree.  Even if he isn't ready week 1 it is much better to allow him to practice while he sits out.  That is what they did last year and it made a huge difference when he was ready to come back because he had the practice reps.  If he gets PUP'ed he can't even practice for 6 weeks of the regular season I believe.

Gronk, Brady and revis worked out together after every practice. I'd think that that would raise eyebrows if they try to pup him.

I don't think it matters… I think any participation at all makes him ineligible. I could be wrong but I think that is the rule. I thought I read that somewhere but I will keep looking.

    Here is what I found….

However, once a player participates in so much as one training camp activity, they are no longer eligible to be placed on the preseason PUP list.

My understanding is a player on the PUP can get treatment and rehab workouts, but not practice. Could be wrong.

Even so, I wouldn't PUP Gronk unless it was clear he was going to need six weeks or more before he could play.

    Re: Gronk

According to Rotoworld he is not eligible to be PUP'd.

Rob Gronkowski - TE - Patriots
Rob Gronkowski (ACL/MCL) has been cleared by doctors and is not being placed on active/PUP.
Considering Gronkowski is just 7 1/2 months removed from blowing out his knee, this qualifies as an impressive rehab. Avoiding the active/PUP list means Gronk will not be eligible for the reserve/PUP list to start the season, which would have cost him the first six regular season games. He'll likely be coddled a bit at camp, but this news puts him squarely on track for Week 1 and his fantasy ADP should skyrocket accordingly. Gronk's 16-game pace last season was 89-1,353-9, and he's scored 42 touchdowns in 50 career NFL games.

The only thing would be IR; which would be a very, very bad thing.

The fact that the Patriots have let go several TEs suggest that BB is not concerned about Gronk or the TE depth and is comfy with the likes of Hooman and Devlin and whatever other JAG they have at TE

I could hope that this forecast is overly negative and that Gronk has a Wes Welker miracle year, but I respect uninvolved outsiders' opinions.

    http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/Top30-fantasy-injury-concerns.html

Rob Gronkowski, TE, New England Patriots: Had ACL reconstruction surgery eight months ago and has yet to return to contact or practice against defenders. He rested his knee and did not travel to the joint practices with Washington last week. When you factor in that Gronk really suffered a multi-ligament knee injury akin to a dislocation, he likely will not be ready for Week 1. Even when he returns, the New England tight end may not be at full production until later in the season. Be careful drafting him in the early rounds.

Either that or he thought the JAGs he let go weren't good enough and wanted to create space to bring in some new JAGs to try.
